A suggestions for a 'GO bag" (a small one)

Now we all either have or have contemplated a "Go bag" or SHTF Bag. Usually they're pretty big and hefty and have to be thrown into the back of a car/truck/SUV. But what about a small quick response go bag?

My friend is contemplating this. See video: This is for a CAMERA backpack but it's pretty cool

The problem is that dedicated PHOTOGRAPHY bags are really expensive, but he has a discount and he thinks it's a cool idea. Check out how it changes form and accessibility. Also those little pockets and compartments are fully adjustable (the small dividers are attached by VELCRO so the small ones can be moved in any direction.

So I'm thinking: 1) Pistol 2) ammo 3) Medical kit 4) Food 5) Water 6) Firestarting equipment (either matches or other) 7) Camping tools (?) 8) Flashlight 9) Radio 10) Spare batteries 11) binoculars 12) Gloves 13) Knife 14) scissors or small cutting tools 15) Mini tool kit

Suggestions as to your optimal SMALL go bag?

If I wanted a rifle, I'd take a soft case all ready to go with ammo in the pouches or a dedicated ammo bag, or save all that BIG stuff for the BIG duffel bag for the SHTF / Disaster survival BAG.

I know photography equipment bags tend to be really expensive, but the modular nature of this got me thinking about a good QUICK RESPONSE go bag to be ready in case of disaster, SHTF, ISIS attack, whatever

I like the LA Police Gear brand backpacks, both the "three day" (which is very small) and the "operator", which is what I would actually think of as a three day bag.

Both are very affordable and tough. The downsides that I have seen are that they are heavy for their size compared to expensive brand name packs.

    http://www.lapolicegear.com/lapg-operator-backpack.html

I use the operator pack as my general purpose backpack. I keep an XD-9 with tlr-1 in a thigh rig on the outer pouch along with a total of five 18 round mags, and I keep 150 rounds boxed in the pack, which is enough to refill my service pistol and concealed carry magazines one time each. I have signalling and fire starting equipment, multi-tools, spare batteries, light weight rain poncho/mini-tarp, spare pants, t-shirt, button-up, undies and socks, nylon belt, first aid, redneck pressure pads (maxi pads, gauze, and tape), heavy work gloves, mechanical/"tactical" gloves, surgical gloves, condoms, paper towels, light sticks, flares, tape, spare knives, rope, paracord, gun cleaning kit, and all sorts of other shit.

I actually use it every day so its not so much a "bug out bag" as a "always have this shit with me" bag. Instead of having a night stand gun, I just keep this next to my bed, that way I have a bedside gun and I can grab the whole pack and haul ass if I need to. I don't take my daily carry gear out of my pants at night, so I can just throw my pants on and just grab my pack.

Also my AR soft case stays loaded with six mags and 120 rounds boxed (4 mags worth) with an outdoors type vest that can hold two AR mags plus pistol mags. Its meant for me to be able to grab it and go throw it my trunk. If I have to leave the car behind I can either carry the case, or if the situation calls for open carry then I'll throw the three mags I can't carry into my pack along with the boxed ammo, put on the vest and leave the empty case in my trunk or at home.

I also keep a spare set of boots in my trunk. I bought several pairs of Bates brand marine corps desert combat boots about four years ago when I found them new old stock for a stupid cheap price. I worked in them for years and still use them for outdoors and and when I do the occasional side job.

I like my eberlestock X3, its fairly small and has an internal scabbard that I can carry my SBR without anyone knowing. My Gunslinger 2 has the same and is a bit larger.

Look at osprey backpacks, very sturdy, lots of options and a great lifetime guarantee. Also they are normal hiking/traveling backpacks, so you don't draw attention to yourself. depending on what size you get you can fit a full up or broke down ar-15 with optics, then carry magazines in an external pocket.

I have carried osprey backpacks all over the world, with everything from clothes to full battle rattle in them, they are solid and low profile.

also look at multi fuel camp stoves, they can run on a lot easily found stuff and don't give away your position as readily and easily as a fire, nor do they take any time to build.

That is the easy part, figuring out WHAT will make up these individual numbered items is what takes up your time money and space.

With an short SBR with a folding stock you dont have to roll out the lower part of the scabbard and it still doesnt show out of the top.

I prefer a 3-day assault pack. It has more room for gear without being too large to hump all day. It also has molle attachments to add stuff to the outside as desired.

For the contents, the usual - for me, Sub2000, G17 with mags and extra ammo. Water, water filter, food, fire starting tool, first aid kit, field knife, extra clothing, sw Handi Talki, maps.

You can add stuff as desired for your area. Extra batteries or crank charge survival radio (with ports for the radio), etc.

Still using a large alice pack with frame. I sometimes ride the bike (the kind you peddle) to the grocery and you can get a lot of stuff into a large alice, the frame keeps the hard bits like cans off your backside. A lot of guys always removed the frame but I find it saves your back and makes for a nice ground plane for mounting larger ht antennas.

I use a Skater backpack (backpack intended to hold a skateboard). In place of skateboard I put a folding stock Tantal in it. Add loaded mags, spare mags and ammo for my Glock, a type 2 AKM bayonet, some fishing line, flashlight, batteries, a zippo lighter and fluid and a couple bottles of water. It weighs a bit, but it's not unbearably heavy even for my scrawny ass to walk around with. However if you can find something with a heavier material that would be better, as the nylon canvas that makes up this backpack is a little thinner than I would like.

I use a like new FILBE assault pack for my school bag. Tote around my diabetic supplies, homework to grade, and my laptop at times in it along with snack food, pens, what not. Most have no idea what it is, those that do love it. Just had another teacher ask me about it, wants to find one for her husband.

I have three total ACU assault packs that are like new. One is my go to bag. Mainly ammo, small med kit, loaded ar mags, and a few beretta mags with 9mm. 2 MRE's, and a camelback with it. Going to add a knife to it eventually, probably an OKC3S as it will attach to it. I love the modularity of these bags, so while some may feel I am a bit nerdy.....Ha, well, quilty I guess. But I can attach a 3 mag pouch to it for 3 30 rd ar mags, and to that 2 beretta mag pouches. 2 MRE's in it, extra ammo, med kit, and stuff the camelback into it. Works great.

I too have my own large ALICE and frame, and I'm not that thrilled with the compartments. I remember them TOO from the service and I just think that there are lot better designed ones on the Aftermarket today that have better layouts and design. Take the recent examples posted by others. Those are really NICE in their layout and design. The ALICE system was designed DECADES ago and I just think that we got smarter when it came to ergonomics and compartment design.

imo, pockets are overrated. ill admit i do have bags with all of those little compartments, and they do, sometimes, make things nicer, but for the most part, i just have everything crammed in together.

again, imo, my "heavy"bag would be a light bag. i think all of the shit most ppl pack is just useless extra weight.

keep in mind, i live in a very rural area. im sure this would not work well in a city. but if iwere to be doing this, heres my hypothetical list.

    1) no, ill already have one on me.
    2) a few extra mags for the carry gun would be a good addition.
3)i have a military ifak (which is mostly a trauma kit) that i added in (in the bottom, so its still quickly accessible as a trauma kit) some bandaids, neosporin, scissors, tweezers, and scalpal, and some ziplocks with medicines (ibuprfen, nsaid, a-d, antihistimine) oh, and butterfly sutures, most important thing there.
the only thing i like to have that is not in there is a saline wash bottle.
    4) ehh, maybe some jerkey, if i got REALLLLLY carried away, an mre, but not too much in this area.
5)military 1l canteen with the metal cup. also a small filter (i get those litle sawyer (?) filters for under $20 at walmart) and a few purification tabs (in the canteen pouch)
    6) absolutely. probably a few at least. magnesium and ferro rod i always have with me, as well as my zippo. probably add a small ziplock w/ cotton ball fire starters and some strike anywhere matches)
    7) small folding saw, small hatchet, military folding shovel
    8)yes.
    9) 2 way radio, programmable. can be used for communication and to hear noaa reports. the newer ones receive fm too.
    10) for the flashlight. many 2 way radios have aa or aaa adapters to replace the rechargable batteries. small hand crank or solar device to charge phones
    11) small fold up ones
    12)leather & nitrile.
    13) fixed blade
    14)no
    15) ehh, again, not too important imo. maybe a screwdriver, pliers, and an adjustable.
    also.
    pen/sharpie
    100' 550 cord.
compass. (a real one. imo, the small button compasses are garbage. if you cant shoot an azimuth with it, its not a compass)
*eta- spare clothes and gel cooking fuel

again, this is a heavy bag for me. maximum load (less a rifle) and can still all be jammed into a day bag. not much weight there outside the canteen, shovel and hatchet. most of the time, i use an ilbe assault bag and have a lot of extra room.
