Bill Gates is in Favor of Going after Your Guns

Everyone knows how former Mayor Michael Bloomberg supports a push towards confiscation of Americans' guns. He's literally thrown millions of dollars behind various campaigns, started organizations and even gotten politicians onboard with going after guns across America. Now, Microsoft founder Bill Gates and his wife Melinda have given $1 million to start the ball rolling on gun confiscation in Washington State.

Gates is the richest man in the world according to Forbes, with an estimated fortune worth $76 billion.
Makes me sick to my stomach that I shelled out over $200 for Office 2013 Professional (needed for school) to help line this guy's deep pockets.

I should have just pirated it instead.

Read the article twice and still can't figure out who they made this contribution to? Seems that it you know for a fact they made a contribution and know what it's for you'd know who it was made to? Maybe I missed it? Found an article that says they donated to a "campaign" but still doesn't say what campaign?

    Found this

    http://www.gunnews.com/bill-gates-do...n-gun-control/

Looks like the "campaign" is the Washington Alliance for Gun Responsibility

When they have millions and millions of dollars and have bought much of everything they want.....they become empty but have almost everything. So they go after POWER. Power can't purchased per se. Power has to be taken in force because not everyone will comply. Once the majority is controlled, the fringe will have to comply. They have to remove the resistance ( GUNS ) to get everyone to comply. Hitler did it with great success.

I think the rich really are scared shitless. They, at least, truly understand that when push comes to shove in this country, once they succeed in destroying the middle class and taking every penny for themselves, it's going to be a conflict between the haves and the have-nots in this country.

Having a heavily-armed, desperate populace is not a recipe for an environment conducive to the welfare of people of great wealth.

At least, not if history is any judge.

Not surprising, really. He's a super rich liberal with more money than brains.

Ha, the heavily armed have not's will be the conservatives, while the unarmed have not's will be the liberals waiting on the government to take care of them. You just can't wait for the class warfare, can you? The only way you will amount to something is to take it from someone else.

If trends continue, and the rich keep hogging more and more of the economic pie to themselves, forcing more and more people into poverty, I don't think partisan politics are really going to matter too much at that point.

Because that's when the guillotines come out. And the Koch Brothers are going to meet the same fate as the George Soros's of the world, unless they finally build Elysium or something.

Ah, you're hoping for a new Lenin and Marx to put all the burgoise in front of the firing squad. Remember, they purged the useless idiots when they were done with them.

Since you bought it for "school", why didn't you get an academic price? I've got every version of Windows from Win95 on up as well as all versions of MS Office. They cost me $3.00 plus tax.

Funny thing is, I've got the latest and best versions of all MS software and I don't use any of it (I run Linux).

I was only half jesting. I think a just as likely outcome is all those rich people lose all their paper wealth in a stock market crash that rivals 1929.

That would be true justice -- let them feel what its like to be poor and strugging paycheck to paycheck for a change.

I've seen some academic student versions (with just Word, Excel, and Powerpoint) that run for only $69, but I wanted Publisher and Access as well since I use them every so often, so that's why I went for Professional Plus.

Now they're trying to push that online Office 365 crap with a subscription where you need to be online in order to work, storing all your info on the cloud (can you say hacker magnet?)

Seriously, once Office 2013 becomes "antiquated" and no longer supported, I'll just have to hope one of the alternatives (OpenOffice, StarOffice, etc.) have finally gotten polished enough to reliably use, with all the same functionality.

But hopefully we'll be good for at least another 10 years.

It amazes me to no end that you think people with more money than you have "done something wrong" or are in need of "justice" or need to "know what it feels like".

There's nothing stopping you from doing what they did.........

Yeah, they had a list of the richest members of congress. 8 were Dems and 2 were Repubs. The richest...the guy who invented the Viper car alarm. Guess he stole that from the unwashed masses.

Get rid of all that Microsoft crap and go with an Apple Ipod. They have apps for just about everything out there now.

I use OpenOffice every day. It works great and other than a few small bells and whistles works just as good.
When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, and he looks you crooked in the eye and he asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail." ----- Jack Burton 1986

I've tried it before (admittedly its been a couple years) but I distinctly remember one of the main problems with it is that when you tried to save a document in a Word .docx format, for example, it would often appear all fucked up when you tried to open it in actual Word. Either the formatting would be off, page breaks not aligning where they were supposed to be, or other little annoyances. Not a big deal in most situations, I suppose, but since all the school's computers and instructors use Microsoft products, I just like to be able to ensure that my essay or term paper or whatever displays for them exactly as it does on my screen, as some instructors are kind of picky about that sort of thing, wanting everything to look polished and professional, not "clumsily" thrown together.

Also in the OpenOffice spreadsheet-equivalent, I seem to remember lots of missing functions (especially statistical functions) that are easily available in Excel.

But like I said, its been a couple years, so maybe they've made some improvements since then. I just didn't want to take the chance, which is the only reason I broke down and bought Office 2013 Pro. (I had stubbornly stuck with Office 2003 Pro clear until just last year, but it was leaving more to be desired as well... so like I said: I hope it lasts me another 10 years like the last one did.)
