A Reading man is in Berks County Prison after allegedly trying to rob an 8-year-old girl at knifepoint in the city, court documents show.

Jackenzy Pierre, 18, of the 900 block of Perry Street was arraigned Tuesday before District Judge Thomas H. Xavios on charges of robbery, terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment. He is in jail in lieu of $50,000 bail. A hearing has been set for Aug. 23.

An affidavit of probable cause filed by Reading police gives this account:

The girl was walking in the 1200 block of Clover Street Tuesday about 4:25 p.m. with $5 she'd been given to buy groceries at a nearby corner store.

As she walked by, a man sitting on a lawn chair in a backyard said, "Give me all your money."

The man was holding a 6-inch kitchen knife in front of his chest when he demanded the money, police said

After reading the article, it seems as though the guy was just playing a game with the girl (albeit a very stupid one).

I seriously doubt that the guy actually intended to rob or threaten the girl, but the sheer stupidity of what he did is reason enough to toss his ass in jail.......

Yeah, just another dumb teenager playing a stupid prank. He had just immigrated from Haiti, maybe that's what kids do for fun over there, threaten each other in jest since they have nothing else to do with their time.

Oh well. Even if he's found not guilty of robbery, he'll probably go down for "making terroristic threats." That's kind of the catch-all these days, like that dumbfuck kid who joked on Facebook he was going to shoot a kindergarten up. He spent several months in jail, most of it on suicide watch, until some anonymous rich patron paid his $500,000 bail. It was pretty obvious from the context of the postings that he just was being facetious. But it happened within a month after Sandy Hook, so understandably the authorities didn't think it was very funny.
