Had some old ammo turned into the PD not too long ago. Mixed in was this box of .50 caliber ammo that looked too short to be .50 BMG. Pulled out a cartridge and found it to be a shortened version of .50 BMG. After doing some research, I found that it is used only as spotter ammunition for the old 106mm BAT recoiless rifles. Supposedly it was designed to exhibit the same trajectory as a 106mm shell, hence the shortened case. Cool stuff! M48 A1 Spotter/Tracer:
