Finally took my new S&W 686 out to the range. It has been a while since I shot a revolver and the last one was a Taurus .22. I will say right up front that it exceeded my expectations. The action was very smooth making it possible to shoot almost as well in DA as in SA. I got the 6" barrel which made quite a difference in felt recoil. I also took my CZ-82 out and the recoil from the 9mm Mak round out of the CZ felt stronger than the 38 SPL and was comparable to the .357.
I shot about 100 rounds today, 50 130 gr FMJ Winchester white box 38 SPL and 50 158 gr FMJ Geco .357 mag. Accuracy was very good, made me look like I knew what I was doing. Here are the last target that I shot in SA and DA in 38 SPL and .357 mag.
First, 38 SPL in SA
38 SPL DA
.357 mag SA
.357 mag DA
I also took my CZ-82 out. Last time I shot it, the pistol would not cycle. I would fire one round and the next would stove pipe and it did the same thing out of every magazine I had. I did some quick looking and then figured out that the magazines were not acting right. I took them home and gave them a good cleaning and oiling. They were filthy. That Russian ammunition I have been using gets carbon everywhere. Anyway, I tried the mags out today and the pistol cycled perfectly.
My CZ is working and I couldn't be happier with the S&W. If there was one thing I could change on the S&W it is the grips. They seemed to be just a little small, not unusable, just a little small. Overall, it was a great day.
