Thumbs up For all you Colt fans

Didn't you all to feel left out with my S&W thread. S&W may be my main passion with regards to wheelguns but I do have a soft spot for the ponies too.

Here's a Python my wife got me for Valentines Day some years back. I love it!

Next is a Colt Marshal. They only made 2,500 of these with maybe 200-250 with 2" barrels. Those are rare. These 4" are just what I would call, scarce. I'll admit that I don't recall seeing another one with the box and all and in this good a shape.

These last two are a pair of NIB Colt Agents. They are about a year apart as far as production goes. The only real difference is the stocks. One has smooth and the other is checkered. Great little guns. Six shots and quite light. My intention was to put together a double, shoulder holster rig and use these for winter carry but just can't bring myself to pop their cherries. Might someday or perhaps I'll sell or trade them to someone else and they can have that pleasure.

    Question

Surely we have a few members who enjoy Colts?

Never owned a colt, don't think I've ever shot one either. My uncle has an army .45 revolver that I got to hold one time.

I've been an avid S&W collector for years which is funny because my first handgun was a Colt Trooper MKIII and followed by a Series 80 Government Model 45. Didn't get my first S&W for another 10-15 years. The Python was pretty much my grail Colt but I would still like to pick up an SA in 45 Colt.

Love the Colt revolvers, especially the Python. The first two centerfire handguns I purchased were a series 70 in the 70's and a 6" blue Python magnaported at the factory. Still have the snake gun.

RIchard Simmons...I thought you said your redheaded wife was a soul destroyer? She seems to be pretty cool if she got you that nice Colt Python. Great collection and pics.

No, what I probably said was that she's a ginger and ginger's have no souls. Doesn't mean they don't have a heart.

I recently picked up a Trooper. I checked the SN at the Colt site and found it was likely manufactured in 1978. I'm on the road this week so no pictures to post.

My first handgun was a 4" nickel Trooper MKIII purchased new in 1978. It's long gone but I did manage to acquire a NIB Trooper MKIII, also a 4" but it's blued. IIRC it's from 1979 so pretty close. I'll have to take some photos of it. I've still got the Series 80 GM I bought new in 1983 for the princely sum of $380 delivered. No photos of that at the moment.

My recent acquisition is 6" blued. It replaces one that passed through my hands 30 or so years ago. I always regretted letting that gun go.

I have a Colt Model 1926 Official Police revolver I've owned for a number of years which has the cleanest, crispest trigger pull of any wheel gun I've ever shot. Put together like a Swiss watch. The Python 6" is among my remaining "bucket" firearms to buy.

I'd like to get an Official Police. One of my friends/coworker inherited a couple of Colts from his father. One is an Officers Model Match and the trigger is beautiful.

Better jump on a Python if you can. Prices are going through the ceiling. I thought S&W Pre-model 27, 29 and four screw model 27's and 29's were getting out of sight, especially the 3.5" versions of the former but Pythons are moving up even faster. That's just for a plain Jane 6". If you're talking 4" or shorter or a 1950's era then fugitaboutit! I'm watching a very special Python right now on gunbroker that is over $10K in bids (no reserve) and still has over a day to go.

Those are crazy prices to be sure. I frequent a gun shop across the border in Indiana which often has rare/unique handguns. Last year they had an assortment of around 15-20 1896 Broomhandle Mauser pistols which had come from a collector who had recently died. Included were two cherry-looking nickel-plate 6" Pythons. One was going for about 2 grand even, the other for about $2500. It's hard for me to justify paying that much $$$ for a revolver but as The Man says, "It's whatever the market will bear".

Thought I'd add these photos of my .357 Trooper MKIII from 1976. Love the stocks on this one. AFAIK it's NIB but the finish looks like it has find scratches on the left side. Thinking it might be the result of a poor polishing job before it was blued but maybe not. Don't see any signs that it was ever carried or fired and it did come on the original box with paperwork which is why I'm leaning towards a bad polish job at the factory rather than something from carry. Regardless she's my pony and I like her just fine.

I would like either the Trooper or the Python. I once bought a Trooper, back in about 1983, but during the waiting period I decided a shotgun would be more useful to me. I was right, but I still wish I had not changed me mind.

My first firearm purchase was also my first handgun and first Colt back in 1978 when I bought an identical Trooper MKIII only in nickel instead of blue. Seems like it ran me $200 and change but I can't swear to it. As I recall it was the only Colt .357 mag in the store. I'd worked all summer to save the money for a .357mag and for what ever reason I didn't want a S&W or anything else but a Colt. That MKIII is long gone but this one is close to the same year and except for the finish it's identical. Would like to add a 6" Trooper MKIII in .22lr. I see them from time to time but usually when I don't have the money to spend.

Nice ponies you have there. I have always had a special place in my heart for a Python but was never lucky enough to find the right one. As a Valentine's Day present from your wire - PRICELESS!!!

Yep, she's quite a gem. In the last 30+ years she's got me that Python, a Ruger single-six, a Ruger SP101, Remington Wingmaster, S&W 10-7, Hungarian SA-2000M, Norinco SKS, Polish M-44 (my first C&R/Milsurp), GSG-5 and probably a few more guns, that's just all I can think of off the top of my head. She's for sure a keeper.
