And pardon my ignorance, as I've never had the honor of serving my country in the armed forces, but here's something I dont get-- a quote from the article:

Gay. lesbian, bi, I get. But TRANS? How could an "intersexed" person serve in the armed forces under the don't ask/don't tell policy? Wouldn't that be obvious? I mean, if someone looks (or endeavors to look) like a woman but is a man, or vice versa, how would they go about hiding that in the military?

Not likely. Male baldness is from an overabundance of testosterone. By their nature, these folks whether by genetics or drugs, decrease their testosterone and INCREASE their estrogen. Hands yes, but they're not 100%. Sometimes the index and ring finger are identical length, in both men and women. When that happens, you're screwed. Also many post OP TS patients do opt for the shaving of the adam's apple purely for the reason you described. Heck, I'm in CA. We got as many of those as FLA, LOL!Throat and hands. Dead giveaways.
