    Question So what's it worth?

Logged into this auction late yesterday and noticed this .223 Valmet M76 had been added to the auction as the first item.

    http://www.proxibid.com/asp/LotDetai...20940#topoflot

They had an onsite bid of $1100 but it had "passed" as it didn't reach the reserve. Don't know what the reserve? Anyone care to venture an opinion on what it should have brought? Had they shown this in the listing a few days earlier I would have had time to check into it and perhaps have attended. Thought they might try and auction it again at a later date and thought I'd see what it's worth in case I get another shot at it? TIA

    Wood fixed or Tube Folder?
    Condition?
    Mags? (Originals are expensive!)

    Retail:
    NIB/Excellent maybe $1600 to $1800
    V. Good +/-$1400
    Shooter +/-$1000 to $1200

You may discount that, buyers are scarce in the used market December through mid-Febuary, more so after the Christmas. This is the time to buy rifles if you have money.

The M71 & M76 in .223 are more common and haven't increased as much as the .308 Version.

I know the M71 came in a synthetic stock, IIRC so did the M76 in small numbers. The synth stocks have a reputation for cracking especially around the butt stock tang area. I wouldn't buy one except as a safe queen.

Is the link I posted not working? It's a wood stock with a 10 and 30rd mag. Condition wise from the pics I'd say it's clsse to excellent.

Here is the same gun with and extra mag for $1500 on Gunbroker:

I checked the link. Looks excellent with box, but not being a tube folder I would stay below $1500. Ever once in a while you can cherry pick one off GB cheaper.

    Thumbs up

Thanks. Emailed the auctioneer to try and see what the reserve was but haven't heard back.

The .308s and especially the 7.62x39s command premium because of being more rare. There were very few of the x39s that made it in. If you find a decent x39 under $2K buy it... quick!

OH, I noticed a steep buyer's premium on that auction. I think it was 17.5% that I thing gets added to the price; be carful!
