New to AK's with yet another site mounting question

Heya guys. While waiting for membership confirmation I pecked around and didn't see this particular issue discussed. I got a stellar deal on a pre-loved WASR and I'm loving it so far. I wanted to get a red dot so I could get on target a little faster. After some research I picked up a Bushnell TRS 25 and a UTG QD side mount. I'm not sold on the dust cover rails. Anyway everything is nice and tight bit the mount sits 1/8" off center to the left. I cant really see this being a good thing. Do they make a side mount that has side adjustment capability? I really didn't want to drop more than I paid for the rifle on the mount alone. Thanks in advance.

    Jeff

    to the board!!

Yes, there are side rail mounts that center the optics. Here: http://www.midwestindustriesinc.com/...ategory_id=433

    And

    and here: http://www.midwestindustriesinc.com/...ategory_id=447

    And

there's another new option too: http://scoutscopes.com/ That's a site sponsor too.

All are more expensive than UTG (I'd send that back and get your money back) but there's a reason for that - they're much better qualtiy.

Thanks for the welcome and the info.
The scoutscopes option seems like it'll be the way to go and I'm always good with supporting a good sponsor.
I'll see if the UTG will center on my friends Romanian and then send it back if it doesn't.

No problem. Stick around and post up some pics of your AK! The Midwest Industries mount at the top is currently out of stock... but at least you have that information for future referrence.

I think I have the same model of red dot that you mentioned - good sight, you should enjoy that.

    Welcome to the group !!!

You might not like what I am about to say, because there is a lot about the Kalashnikov and all it's variations that some people don't like, and for some reason they don't bother me, like the short fixed stock, or the inability to weld your cheek to a side folder.

That also goes for some sidemounts. While it might not look perfect with a scope off to the side by an eighth or a quarter or a half inch, at 100 yards I guarantee it won't make a difference. That said, also take into account the parallax of the scope above the barrel and you get the picture, the true sight picture.

That said, check the mounts listed by O.S.O.K.

Enjoy your WASR, an ATF approved version of the rifle that Mr. Kalashnikov designed as a reliable homeland defense weapon that would shoot about an 8 inch group at 150 yards, and when you think about it's intended target, that works just fine.

It's nothing too sexxy right now. It was a training rifle and never had a live round shot through it. But it needed se love cosmetically. I reblued it and painted the furniture. Hopefully I'll replace the wood with something lighter. Right now I'm more interested in getting ammo stockpiled while the ammo is still relatively cheap.
I'll post a pic when the mount shows.

It would probably work fine but looking through the site and seeing the front site well to the right was a tad distracting. Also I've been looking at side folding stocks and they probably won't close right with the huge UTG rail.
I understand and like you appreciate the looseness of the ak and its variants.

Get on YouTube and check out Military Arms Channel. He reviews a LOT of AK aftermarket items. A lot of them are optics and mounts for optics. He's on here as Military Arms, you can talk to him in comments of YouTube or on facebook.

If there's something new or obscure in the AK aftermarket world, I can usually find it on his channel.
