You can use the spring. A uncle of mine had a spring pretty much like yours. He dug down, built a cement and cinder block container. The spring flowed into the container. At the bottom of the container he had a filtered pipe which fed into a seperate container to hold the water. From this container water flowed into a sand filled cassion, which in turn provided the house with water.
The cassion overage was allowed to drain out through a filtered pipe (to keep insects and etc., from getting into the water in the cassion).
Of course, the spring has to be uphill of the house.
If it isn't, built the cassion with a pump so the water can be pumped up to the house.
As a kid, we had a pump at a spring (no filter system) downhill from our house. One day the pump stopped working. I was given the task of fixing the pump. I found a large Moccasian snake caught in the pulley system. Needless to say, I had to kill the snake before I could fix the pump.
After that, the water always tasted kinda "snakey".![]()
Your uncle built a spring box. I saw that on a youtube. Yes, this is below the house and if we make the pond, it will be about foot down into the water... but it and other one will keep the pond topped off - we hope.
I can always put a well in. I don't think the water level is very far down...
And luckily, the county water is very nice and we're getting good pressure.

My grandfather had one of those on his land. He dug a hole about 2-3 feet deep and 6 feet across. he then put in a drainage pipe that led to the creek about 20 feet away. The water was ice cold and tasted like Evian.
Thanks for the post OSOK. I'm enjoying seeing how your homestead is coming along. Keep documenting it with photos and video. You could probably build your own website around it someday.
Trying to get on the no fly list, one post at a time.
Sweet!
You could call your place "OSOK SPRINGS"
Of course after the 12.9 megaquake from hell hits, it'll be known forever after as "OSOK FALLS"![]()
just like that on the southwest corner of my property. I have not developed it though. The former owner dug a pit that is full of water most of the time. chris3
I have a similar spring on my place...
I'm pumped about having them on the property. It shows that the water table is pretty high.
I'm planning on puting in a well and will begin with a driven point well since I have the kit for it already. This would give us a backup source of water at the very least and if it turns out good, I'll probably switch over entirely.
