Kentucky Restaurant Shut Down After Road Kill Found in Kitchen

This would go nicely with the 'Raccoon Kabobs' thread.

A Chinese restaurant in Kentucky has reportedly been forced to shut its doors after allegedly serving up roadkill.

WKYT.com reports that the Red Flower Chinese Restaurant in Williamsburg was shuttered on Thursday after a customer called the health department when she saw a dead deer being wheeled into the kitchen.

"Two of the workers came in wheeling a garbage can and they had a box sitting on top of it,” Kate Hopkins told the website. “And hanging out of the garbage can, they were trying to be real quick with it. So that nobody could see it. But there was like a tail, and a foot and leg. Sticking out of the garbage can and they wheeled it straight back into the kitchen.”

Yum...probably better than most of what they served. A Chinese cook once told me how they prepared cat...and he was very explicit and even excited about it. Unlike fresh (or otherwise) road kill cat must be skinned, decapitated, gutted, spread out on a block and 'chopped' with a clever to break bones but not all the way through...then it is thrown into a large pot of boiling salt water for a couple of minutes...then another fresh boiling salt water bath and once more before being ready to cut up and prepare for real cooking.

He told me that this got rid of the cat piss flavor you get otherwise.

Way too expensive to be mistaken for chicken...and a 'special' specialty meal in better Chinese restaurants.

    Hmmmmm....must breakfast time!

I had an interesting "flat-iron" steak once at a little place called Big Wheel in Alderson, WV. I'm pretty sure it was possum.

Was it the chicken that did not make it across the road?

If it was fresh kill no big deal but the workers were pretty stupid. At least it wasn't my neighbors cat or dog in the stew pot...I hope.

Parrots too pricey, more like robins and doves and pigeons.

How long would it take to pick the feathers off of enough sparrows to make a pot of chili?

Just a few minutes, you drop them in a pot of boiling water, wait till it boils hard again then pull them out one at a time and run your hands over them to peel off most of the feathers. Use kitchen shears to get rid of the beak and legs, smash them with a large wooden mallet and dump the slushy remains into the pot. Simple.

I thought for sure the story was going to be about Taco Bell.
