    Exclamation RIP Mikhail Kalashnikov

    Kalashnikov inventor dies aged 94

Mikhail Kalashnikov, inventor of the world's most famous gun, has died.

While Kalashnikov designed a weapon that became synonymous with killing on a sometimes indiscriminate scale. He was seen in the Soviet Union as a national hero and symbol of Moscow's proud military past.

A former soldier, inspired by the drawbacks of Russian weaponry in the Second World War he decided to invent a new assault rifle.

This process culminated in 1947 with the design of the AK-47.

Over the course of his career he evolved the basic design into a weapons family.

Kalashnikov, who was in his 20s when he created the AK-47 just after World War Two, died in his home city of Izhevsk, near the Ural Mountains, where his gun is still made.

Somehow I expected it to be yesterday, but regardless the world has lost someone who cared so much for his country that he developed one of the greatest homeland defense weapons of all time.

    Rest in peace comrade.

Just saw it on the BBC.

He was hospitalized the other month & it didn't sound too good then. 94 is a pretty damn good run though.

    RIP brother!

The only thing more remarkable than his weapons designs is his intense patriotism. I can only hope that the contributions I make to my country add up too half as much as his.

Mikhail Kalashnikov was a good friend of AK-47.NET and supported our website. He will be very missed....

God Bless him and his daughter and grandson.

Oh Christ! I have been worried about this every sience he went back into the Hospital. Got my first AKMS on 1 May, 1987. Never forget firing them at Graf. in July, 1984. I have owned AK's more than any other Weapon. Never cared for that Puke Stoner, but this Man will be Missed! It is like I have lost my Father. Paul

Drinks up brother, you will be greatly missed.

He may have been a son of our Enemy, but he was a great Man, a Genius of simplicity, and a patriot to his country like no other I can think of.
    RIP MK.
Looks like AK's and tannerite this weekend boys, time to send him off well and proper.
