Cool The AK that's a Sig

Picked this up the other day. Came with the sand colored bits and all original parts. The plan was to ditch the rail and go back to regular h-guard, but I may just keep it and add some covers and maybe a front grip. Seller couldn't remember who made the muzzle device. Manticore grip and Krebs safety. The stock in folded position is kept by Velcro right now as Troy rail doesn't play well with the keeper mechanism - it covers it.

interesting. what is all that white stuff in the background?

41 and rain at this very moment.

I like the look of the muzzle device, is it custom?

Let us know how it shoots.
Particularly if it works as intended.

I've seen several videos where the 7.62 Sig action loves to malfunction.
Lots of fail to eject, fail to feed, stovepipes and more than once an empty shell ending up stuck rattling around inside the receiver.
I was really interested in one until i saw those videos.

Snow. Lots of snow. Pretty pretty snow. And really fking cold...

Y'all northern arctic types can keep it.
That is one thing the south will absolutely never try to take from your heritage, trust me...

That's a nice looking rig. I'm guessing that's an adjustable gas block?

Very interesting rifle Vit! You are the first that I have seen to have one. Please let us know how well it behaves.

yea, they did a very short run of them in october and that's it .

    a couple improvements here/there.
Going to put a Phantom FH on mine and hunt around for real Sig furniture VS it looking like a Chilean copy.

Had my local guy call distributors looking for a 556R - was told multiple times that they were discontinued. Sig web site shows gen2, no Xi. Decided to jump on this one locally, the TROY ind stuff put it a bit over budget, but I didn't wan to take chances while I still had the cash.

It looks good Vit. I'd be interested to read a follow up on function and accuracy on paper.

I bought one of these a while back. Have shot a few hundred rounds with it without incident. Very well executed design after they worked out the kinks. I like the rail on mine but some say the polymer front end is lighter. The weight doesn't bother me. Very easy to clean.

Nope actually that's just the way Sig profiles the barrels with that flared out diameter at the end. Image borrowed from the Sig web site. http://www.sigsauer.com/CatalogProdu...6-classic.aspx

ok with most bbls being threaded down in dia., why would sig make their bbl thinner? is a cooling reason?

why? isn't it flattery to be copied, as long as you own the patents?

You have to remember this is the civilian copy of the STG90 which is the Swiss military's assault rifle. The thinning is a weight reduction thing more than likely. The Swiss don't do anything for aesthetics alone , there is an Engineering reason for anything they do on military hardware.

This photo is of the STG90, Sig 550 rifle. Notice it has a bulge back from the flare out in diameter that the flash hider is attached to. That is for use of a rifle launched grenade.
