    Shopping New Trucks... OMG!

    Have I got sticker shock!!!

Prices have doubled since I bought my last truck in 2001.

I'm mainly shopping Ford F250 and Dodge D2500 both in 4WD.

I like the looks of this one (used but new is easily converted):

Pickup trucks went from affordable work vehicles to overpriced Cadillac wannabees with leather interior, fancy trim, stereo that could be used in a concert hall, and a million other things that don't help hauling a load of cut trees out of the back 40.

My last new F350 was $36,500, a F150 is over $40,000 today... My truck would cost nearly $70, 000 today....

Steer clear of a new Dodge. Their reliability has gone to hell since Chrysler was bought out by Fiat.

I won't buy any UAW made vehicle. If I were in the market for a truck, it would probably be a Nissan Titan if only out of principle.
If I had a dollar for every time CAPITALISM was blamed for problems caused by the GOVERNMENT, I'd be a fat filmmaker with a baseball cap.

That is what I thought about my old 2001 F350, BUT I take clients out to lunch and drive it daily WAY out of town... I must have something nice and reliable...

    New?

    Tacoma "starts" at 18K
    Tundra about 22K

    Realistically though, most are 32-38K

See, isn't it nice to know you can still get a nice truck for under 40 grand?

I feel your sticker shock. I have a 2001 Tundra purchased in Dec. 2000. I can't believe what they are stickerd for now. I know I'll never own another new one at those prices.

If you can do without all the do-dads, look for a fleet truck.
Yeah I also remember when they used to throw away jeeps also.

Funny this thread came up. I was reading an article just the other day stating the average person can not afford the average new vehicle cost (around $33K). That being said I bought my 2000 Dodge Dakota 2WD Sport club cab 2 years old (certified pre owned) with about 44K miles on it back in 2002 for $11,500, new was almost $23K. I still have her with just about 180K miles on her, she's been a good truck never let me down and always got the job done. That being said she shows her age but I keep her well maintained and I have no payments. Still runs and drives like a top.
