n the state of New York, hundreds gathered near Sarasota Springs in a fiery act of civil disobedience aimed at gun control lawmakers.

According to the Post Star, “nearly a thousand gun registration forms were turned into ashes Sunday.” Under NY’s SAFE Act, those who possess what the State of New York considers to be military-style “assault weapons” have to register by April 15th.

“Once the Second (Amendment) falls, the rest will go with it. It’s an unconstitutional law, done in the middle of the night with no input from the public,” E.J. Stokes told the Post Star.

The NY2A Grassroots Coalition organized the protest. Jake Palmateer, a NY2A co-founder, said that, “We are opposed to registration because the evidence is clear that registration leads to confiscation.”

The Post Star cited Palmateer as estimating that fewer than 3,000 New York “assault weapons” have been registered and he says State Police claim that there are several hundred thousand more “assault weapons.” There may be high as 1.2 million, Palmateer added.

According the Post Star: “about 230 people attended a forum to discuss the issue before the burning.” Similar forums held across the state have been well attended, Palmateer told the news publication, adding that gun groups will be holding a big rally April 1st at the state Capitol.

“We are not extremists,” Kevin Sisson said while at the event. “We are simply free men who love our country.”

There was only about 6% of the American population who joined the "Patriots" in 1776. By 1787 they had a new Constitution. It sounds like Patriotism is still alive in the Empire State. Good luck.

Glad to read that story, and hope sanity prevails and we don't have the same issues in 1775.

I don't know Knut. People are really getting sick and tired of being blamed for this stuff.
Im serious they are trying to create a situation.
While no one ever listens to me,
I am constantly being told to be quiet.
