I plan on shooting it if I can find some non corrosive ammo.

    Aim always has some. http://www.aimsurplus.com/catalog.as...&name=7.62x54R.

I never shot the brown bear. But did buy a couple hundred rounds of the privi partizan because i reload and need to shoot some of it to see how accurate it is.

Not bad for 13 something a box and have decent brass to reload.

Seller and Bellot also make a noncorrosive loading for the 54R, but I haven't seen any in quite a while. Might be some Hornaday brand as well, though it's going to be very expensive. Frankly if one cleans proprely the corrosive ammo is not a problem. You will have to tear down the bolt and clean that as well as the salts get blasted up inside the bolt body.

Hey, a little late here but to the board! Congrats on your new M38 - very nice!

And don't worry about the corrosive thing - just shoot, enjoy and then when you're done, run some wet patches (just water or water/windex) down the bore, then some dry ones and then one or two Hoppes #9 patches - finish with a dry patch and you're GG! Wipe the face of the bolt with a little Hoppes too. No worries - no need to pop for the non-corrosive.

Check here: http://www.gunsnet.net/forumdisplay....munition-Depot for current deals on ammo - there's a sticky at the very top with fresh deals and also some that get posted regularly. $189 on Rusky 7.62x39 for instance.

Whats the deal with the shortage on M44s in the US? I thought they made tons of them.
Vietnam,Iraq,Afghanistan and a host of other countries the Russians supplied weapons to. I've seen stacks of them in captured weapons photo's and you know what usually happens to those.
