No, that is in fact his job......to harvest "souls".

Now you're right he doesn't do anything with them, just like a farmer harvesting wheat does't bake the bread or distill the liquor from the crop. He is merely the means by which the crop is harvested and then is sent on to be processed by someone else.
As the grain is sent on the stalk is plowed back under, so the soul moves on and the body returns to the soil.

I thought that in traditional Judeo/Christian thinking that there were only two legitimate 'big boys' on the block. God and the Devil. I always figured the Reaper was just some sort of guy who pick up the people, like a taxi driver.
As wrong as this is... Was on facebook scrolling through some discussions in an AK group I'm in and happened upon this conversation with Vince "Knuckles" fron SoG talking with the group about the STG44. Wrong as it is, it made me laugh my ass off! Had to screen shot it. sorry I kinda snipped a bit off, but you get the idea.

Seeing as how his main mode of locomotion is to just kinda float around like a ghost, they may just be for purties or perhaps a status symbol of some sort.
