American police draw fire at the border

American law-enforcement officers on the Texas-Mexico border were fired upon from Mexico this morning in Hidalgo County while trying to capture a load of smuggling narcotics, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

At least three suspected drug runners were wounded in the exchange, officials said. It was unclear if they were in the United States, in Mexico or crossing the Rio Grande River.

Three police boats dispatched to the scene took “heavy gun fire” from across the river while trying to catch the drugs, which were allegedly also aboard boats, according to a DPS statement..

The officers were part of a multi-agency Texas Ranger Recon operation and were along the border early this morning.

Mexican authorities were notified of the incident.

Reminds me of a joke:

A Taliban commander is walking his division through the mountains, when he hears a voice over a ridge yell, "One Army Ranger is better than 10 Taliban soldiers." The commander, annoyed, sends ten men over the ridge, where gunfire and explosions erupt, followed by silence. A few moments later, the voice calls back, "One Army Ranger is better than 100 Taliban soldiers." The commander, angry, sends a hundred men over the ridge, with gunfire and explosions going off again, followed by silence. Convinced that the Ranger is dead, the commander gets ready to move out, when he hears the voice yell again, "One Army Ranger is better than 1,000 Taliban soldiers!" Absolutely furious, the commander sends 1,000 men over the hill, with gunfire and explosions erupting. The fighting lasts for a long time, followed by silence. Finally, a battered, bloody Taliban soldier comes crawling back over the ridge, and says, "Commander, don't send any more men. There's actually two of them."

This will never end till we decriminalize or legalize drugs. We didn't have these problems before the early 1900's when drugs were bought over the counter.
Prohibition any wise person can see was the cause of gangs and violence.

Agreed. There should not be laws in place that attempt to protect a person from him or herself. The only valid laws are those which protect the individual from other people.

We need guard towers and miniguns at the border. Lots of them.

Prohibition generated crime, drug laws generate crime and gun laws generate crime.

You would think they'd learn by now... but then this IS the government we're talking about.

Perfect public works project. Build the Great Wall of USA and wall off the Mexies. Put in no doors, nothig and nobody is needed from Mexico.
