Heh, the 7.62x39 round would beg to differ. That sucker'll go through 8 inches of hard pine and come tumbling out the other side.

Anyone who's ever walked up to the cars on the range at Knob Creek knowns the only place to hide behind on a car are the rims :) (well the engine block probably works too but they are normally pulled out by time they get range time :) .

But they do it all the time on TV and in the movies!!!! They also have those magic mags that never run out!!!! And full-autos that never get hot from constant firing with those magic mags.

With millions of dollars invested in production and the stars, they don't skimp on armor for 1970's car doors.
Perpetual ammo is a well guarded secret in Hollywood. If it ever goes public, God help us.

Self contained barrel cooling systems are also a well kept secret.

We can only hope for the advanced features.

about 13 years ago or so i took out 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" thick steel plate to the range. 7.62x39 lead and steel core whet thru 1/4" plate like butter. on 3/8" plate about half of the rounds of both lead and steel core whet thru, but you could see they changed direction coming out the back. the other half of the rounds put a very large creator in the steel plate. on the 1/2" thick steel plate only a couple of steel core out of 10 penetrated. all lead went splat. I found one steel core laying right in front of the 1/2" plate. looked like thick pencil lead and was only slightly bent to one side.

I am surprised that lead will punch thru 1/4" thick steel plate.

A .22LR CCI Stinger fired from my Ruger KMK512 (pistol) will go through one side of an empty propane can (the gas grill sized can) and make a respectable dent in the other side.

Anything larger will easily go through both sides.

A car door offers no safety from gunfire.

7.62x39 FMJ lead core will go through a 1/2 inch thick mild steel plate. So will a 5.56x45.

Anybody notice how much more the barrel jumped with the 7.62x39 than it did with the 7.62x51?

The difference between shooting with a muzzle brake on the bolt action and shooting without on the AK.

I thought this video was pretty nuts, just mostly around the 3:30 mark, where they show penetration effects on wood pilings.

Great videos!
It sure helps explain why my AK, when being shot from a home-made frame/rest, only had 2 of 5 shots on paper at 100 yds.!
My .243 bolt had 7 shots in less than 2.5 in. at 200 yds. and that was off of sandbags and laying the rifle down between shots.

You either have a broken AK or you need more practice. :D

It's amazing how much damage such a small round can do...you could probably take down a helicopter with one of those.

Very true. Both of my Kalashnikov rifles (an SAR-1 and a Norinco) are very accurate. I can pop 6 inch diameter balloons at 200 yards out with just a Kobra red-dot sight. I center the dot left-right, account for the distance and fire. Hand held I can hit them about 50% of the time, on a bench rest I can hit them every time.

The myth of an AK being "inaccurate" is just a... myth.
