Today 06 August is the 65th. anniversary of the atomic bomb being dropped on Hiroshima, Japan.

The one bomb weighed about 9000 pounds, contained a "warhead" of 64 Kg. of enriched Uranium 235, and only 0.6 GRAMS of this was converted from matter to energy as per Einstein's famous E=MC^2 equation.

Less than a gram of uranium, converted into raw energy, leveled an entire city and killed over 160,000 people.

I thank God that the bomb worked. It SAVED countless lives as it prevented the need for a land invasion of Japan which would have resulted in mass casualties for both sides.

Any "A-Bomb apologists" can go fuck themselves.

Japan awoke the "sleeping giant". Bad move on their part. They have only themselves to blame.

Maybe Japan should apologize to ITSELF for letting things go so far that the nuke was necessary!

I don't believe this anniversary is any particular cause for celebration, beyond the fact it brought about the finale to WWII.

One could argue the pros & cons of dropping the bomb (and the subsequent one on Nagasaki) till the end of time but the truth is it let the proverbial Genie out of the bottle, never to be put back in. Yes there were more civilians killed during the Allied bombings @ Dresden, Hamburg, Berlin, etc.. but the end result was the same, a huge number of civilian non-combatants killed because of the egos of some pinhead facist warlords in Europe & Japan. Overall a sad day for humanity in general, imho.
