If you are like me, you HATE the trigger on Mosins.
I did some searching looking for a solution. I found a site where a Mosin owner apparently came up with a way to make the Mosin trigger adjustable. The only evidence of the work is a threaded hole under the cocking piece of the bolt and not seen unless the bolt is removed. There are NO modifications to the trigger or sear.

I figured I had nothing to lose if I attempted this on my "truck" Mosin, so I disassembled it and proceeded to mark the end of the sear spring on the receiver. I then followed the instructions in the link below.

The only thing I did differently was to use an 8-32 set screw since I had no 6-32. I compensated the difference by moving the scribed sear spring location the difference between the 6-32 and 8-32 screw rearward.(about .020")

With the machine work done, I tightened the set screw against the sear spring, noticing the trigger moving to the rear as I tightened it. After some pressure was applied, I inserted the bolt to ck for trigger pull. All the front to rear slop has been removed and the sear broke less than before. I continued to tighten the set screw until the bolt no longer stayed cocked when closed. I loosened the screw until the bolt stayed cocked when the rifle was slammed butt first on the floor. After working the bolt 20-30 times, and slamming the rifle on the floor as many times, I was confident the trigger was adjusted correctly.

The results are, the take up travel has been reduced to zero. The sear is breaking cleaner and the pull is greatly reduced. I have no way of knowing what the pull is since I don't have a trigger pull scale, but it is noticeably better. I will say the pull and sear breaking is as good as many commercial rifles. I'm happy.:cool1:

i call bullshit :bs: on the $.02 trigger.

around here, buying a single set screw will set you back at least $.30 he even admitted in the article to having to buy a qty of 100 to get that price, which i doubt would be that cheap either.

and he completely disregarded the cost for cutting/tapping fluid, loc tite, and the wear and tear on the taps and drills.

i would say that that trigger fix would set the average person back at least $.40, and thats assuming that you already have the fluids and cutters on hand. possibly up to $10 if you had to but a drill and tap and loctite.

but other than that, looks plausible.i think im going to try this on my scout project mosin thats getting the factory saftey cut off and a side saftey installed.

Damn.where do you live....Las Vegas???

My screw set me back $.17, already had the tap, LocTite, and bit.
My time.......PRICELESS!! (free, LOL)

I figure the total costs doing this, $2.00.

really? i didnt think the $10 estimate was that high. i figure, about 3 for the bit, 3 for the tap, 2 for the loctite, buck and a half for a small bottle of cutting fluid, and 50 for the screw and tax.

but back on topic...kinda, is that mosin cut down? looks shorter than standard. i like it, looks compact.

10 bucks is probably in the ballpark if you had to buy everything.

Yeah, it's 16.5", perfect for a truck gun.

ill bet a 16.5" throws a hell of a fireball!!

you should add some info on your rifle. is that a red dot or something on top of the receiver?

i think i may have to buy another now, just to cut down.

Here's a pic of it with BSA reddot. Top of the received was drilled and tapped my me to accept a modified (shortened) Weaver mount.
ETA: I haven't shot it since it was completed because I had face surgery on the 6th of June.

This one I made.
The previous one was made by TxDogBlaster from stainless steel. It really added weight and I decided to save it for a future project.

This one uses the same base mount.

The rest is made of 3/16"x 1/2" steel stock, and a Weaver mount.
Pics when I get time..
