Never dreamed I would see the day when $464 plus shipping and transfer was considered a good price for the SAR-1.

And to think, back in the days before ATF found that these rifles violated the sporting purpose clause of the second amendment for importation, they were going for well under $350 delivered!!!!

Ahhh the good old days when the right to keep and bear arms were not infringed.

$350 in 2002 money is about $440 in 2011 money. http://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/cpicalc.pl?cost1=350&year1=2002&year2=2011

It sucks that they quit bringing them in. Could they have brought them in as unbarreled assemblies and finished putting them together with a US made barrel here?

While this is a good idea, I don't believe that there were US barrels toward the end of 2003 when the SAR series was banned as non-sporting. My belief that the primary reason for the ban was ATF was kind of red-faced when they found out they were allowing importation of the only true military issue AK variant ever imported into the US for commercial sale. They later agreed to allow in AK variants that only had single stack mag wells as those were considered sporting. Getting stupider, they allow the single stack mag well to be opened up to accept standard AK mags after importation as long as the rifle then met the other sporting purpose clause of the new second amendment which stated that 10 or less imported parts made it sporting.

Somewhere we the people have lost the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

Yah we all got them at a better price back then, the MOST I paid was 300 + tax, and it was a very accurate gun. Still needed to change out the FCG ( soft hammer /trigger slap) a little rough compared to Bulgarian, but very excellent Semi-autos. Mine kept up with a milled arsenal ( ok the Arsenal was almost an inch tighter @ 100 yards, but it had the thicker early style barrel.).

AFAIK SAR-1 were NEW guns at least pick of the crop de-mills, the current WASRS come from slightly more used kits, but this varies. I had a SAR-2 that was Cruddy, and have no idea why it would not group.:confused1:

IMHO, hand pick a WASR 10/63 and enjoy.

Yep, those were the days. Back before ATF realized that the SAR-1 was the real deal and then banned them. I wish someone would show them the law that they are supposed to follow.

Aim Surplus invoice???
