as often as the law has been posted here I am still unsure as to what is what..assuming an unknown rifle(this is a thought experiment and by no means is this a legal "oh sh*t what do I do now?" scenario) what parts on a L1A1 count and how many ( and or what) would be needed to make it compliant? this is the one gun law that makes NO sense to me but oh well..that's why I ask.

CRAP...Please forgive me ..mods can you move this to the Build it yourself forum?..I apologize for the error.

Moved thread but left a temporary redirect from the other forum.

The above is a link to the ATF list of what they call countable parts. The old 922(r) wasn't enough and the had to write it again, only this time in their codified regulations section, another term for unconstitutional laws.

Title 27 CFR 478.39

4. Gas Piston
5. Bolt Carrier
6. Bolt
7. Charging Handle Assy

No more than 10 foreign parts allowed.
So generally, 7 US parts are used on the FAL to reach 922r compliance.

Thank you for posting this. If I had a buck for every time I've answerd this on the old board and this one I think I could retire! Well ... maybe not, but I could sure order some Pizza to go!
