Can you change a stock right hand safety to a left hand safety?

Got a quick question. I'm left handed and I was wondering if I needed to buy an Ambi safety or if I could just pull out the existing safety and switch it around to the other side of the receiver frame so that it was setup for a lefty? Or by doing this would it cause issues with how the safety operates (i.e. is there a difference between a right and left handed safety/fire selector)?

get an ambi safety.

You could allways buy a left handed ar too which would likely have the ambi built in allready. I saw one at a gun show a few weeks ago in houston so they do exist.
