If this is the Shrike of which you speak.

they didn't get the contract .......apparently the M249 is what has made the .mil cut.

Reduced weight compared to the M249 seems to be the main selling point.

I thought a LMG was supposed to be heavy. Otherwise its just a rifle with a big mag.

Why?

They should have made it a 6.8 or 7MMX40. Slowed down the firing rate a little, stuff it with a 120 gr bullet, maybe 130 gr.

Forgive me, its the dinosaur deep inside me old carcass trying to get away from rodent bullets.

That is your reason but what is the attraction to semi-auto belt fed?I'm not picking a fight I'm asking a question.

S/A belt feds are awesome!!! I had an RPD but had to sell it. Now have a PKM. You need to link your own ammo, not a big deal, and 7.62x54r is still cheap.

Too bad the Fed. Govt. doesn't pursue the PKM, even in different caliber, whole weapon weighs 17.4 lbs, tripod is less than 10. It is a super simple weapon, basically an AK upside down. Barrell swaps are a breeze, and it's quite accurate!

Just my 2/100$

I do believe that there are many many many shooters that have paid their deposit on a shrike UPPER and are still waiting... have been for many many many years.

they have really screwed with their "customers"... i wouldnt support Ares with a penny of my money... as far as I am concerned they have been playing a shell game with the "citizen" firearm buyers.

I built a linker for my 1919, you can also load cloth belts by hand. Don't think it would be an issue building one for the application.

The Shrike was (is) just an upper! The lower on an AR/M16 is what makes the weapon full auto or semi auto.

You could throw it on a semi-auto, or full-auto lower, and it wouldn't change the upper.

As for being in production yes - they are in limited production, and more and more are slowly creeping out into the hands of their long-waiting depositor/buyers.

I've hear rumors that all the depositors' uppers are supposed to have been delivered by the end of this year, but don't have any hard facts to back that up.

However, I have seen three different examples put up for sale on different gun boards this year alone.

Also, I know a dealer that put in an order for 10 (yes, $15,000 in deposits), but who has not yet received any of his ordered uppers. His order was placed in 2002 or 2003, so any deliveries made so far were presumably to those who've been on the waiting list longer than he has been.

They are fun. They are good for those lazy days when you don't want to reload.

I link my own with a linker.

Although the lightweight has advantages; when on a bipod a heavier SAW is easier to run than a light one.

How could they ignore the Shrike has a bayonet.. :D
