How can I identify which circle 10 Bulgarian waffle mags are for 5.45x39? Will the
5.56x45 work? Thanks, Bob:o

If i'm not mistaken, 5.56 rounds will not fully load the magazine with 30 rounds if it's a 5.45.
Pics can be helpful sometimes too.

5.56x45 will be a little straighter than the 5.45x39. Also all of my 5.56x45 are with the caliber marked up near the feed lip and are waffle mags.

Did they even make a waffle mag in 5.45x39

The closest thing I have seen to a 5.45x39 waffle mag is the Bulgarian 45rd mags. K-Var and Copes Dist. have the best prices on those mags. Still relatively cheap when compared to the 45rd Bakelites.

There are no 5.45 waffle mags in 30 rd mags to my knowledge.

Correct all Bulgarian 5.45 mags are smooth sided.

It would seem to me, though I don't know just guessing, that 5.56 round would not fit into the 5.45 mags. I am guessing that 5.56x45 rounds are longer than the 5.45x39 rounds.

Incorrect, they are not longer to any substantial degree. What's different is the taper of the cases. 5.56 is very straight sided and the 5.45 round is very tapered, a lot like the 7.62 ax round. AS such there is more curve to the stack up of 5.45 rounds. A 5.45 mag will accept 5.56 rounds, I've done it but it will not feed reliably much past 15 rounds. The follower is the wrong profile and the ass of the 5.56 cartridges sit too low to be picked up by the bolt. Building up of the follower to lift the rim end of the rounds will over come alot of this. Robinson Armament when they imported the Veper rifles used to sell a plastic 5.56 conversion follower to change the 5.45 mags to feed 5.56. To go the opposite way, take a Bulgarian waffle 5.56 mag and try to use it to feed 5.45 would probably require alteration of the follower to lower the tail of the round if you wanted to get a full 30 rounds into the magazine.

....except for the 45rd mags.
