In the past I've read comments that the M44 and M38 Mosins seem to like the heavy ball loads best. Some mention Romanian Silvertip as being accurate in a wide variety of Mosins. Others guys swear by heavy ball in their Finnish M39 but others, not so much.

Was just wondering if anyone has run across a certain make of ammo or bullet weight that consistantly performs well in a particular model? TIA

I always had good luck with polish steel core silver tip in 91/30's and Yellow tip hungarian heavy ball in the 38/44's.

I've got Romanian Silvertip, Russian LP, Hungarian silver/yellow and maybe even some Albanian left.

Mosin wise I've got the following:

Polish M44
Russian M38
Finn M39
Finn potbelly 91/30
Finn "41" capture M91/30

I've never shot the potbelly but as I recall the M39 always like the silvertip. Maybe I'll try to do some testing and see what I can come up with.
