I am currently trying to stock away some 7.62x39 regard.

Will it rust after time if kept in military grade ammo cans?

If it stays dry it shouldn't. Toss in a dessicant pack to absorb the moisture when you seal the can. Oh and the can does need to have seals that really seal I should add.

I keep mine in steel ammo cans, in the original boxes to wick away any moisture. I need desiccant packs.

Bag some cat litter and it will do the trick, same as the clay packs and cheaper

I have Tula laquared steel that I bought around 1996-7, stored in surplus ammo cans. It still looks like new.

A small cloth bag of rice will work in a pinch. Heat it in a warm over for 30 minutes before using to get it extra dry.

A chip of dry ice will displace all O2 with CO2 also...

I heard somewhere that those packs of handwarmers work too.

Line the ammo can with a thin layer of cardboard and use a dessicant pack. If your can has a good seal your G2G . non-lacquered steel case ammo will rust fast.

Um, not a good idea, the cardboard that is. Why? Because it is acidic and it could promote rust.

I'm at 10 yrs plus on lacquered steel cased ammo stored just in the box in ammo cans, no problem. If you're worried, rice in an old sweat sock absorbs moisture, handwarmers absorb oxygen. Also, quit storing it and shoot it. :)

Same here and my safe is in a converted garage that isn't air conditioned. Never had an issue with my steel cased stuff stored in ammo cans.
