View Full Version : a little help identifying a mauser action.

here's what i got on the shelf. it says k98 on the side, but little confusing to me because the front ring is smaller than my others were. the front ring on this one doesn't flare up to a larger outside diameter from the top opening of the mag well. check out the pics.

did some measuring. guess it's a small ring with large threads.:(

IIRC some of the Turks were built to those specs as well as possibly the Mexican Mausers. What markings, if any, are on the top of the receiver?

Throw a small ring barrel on it and go to town.

BTW, what pics?

nothing on top of the reciever.

it's a small ring action cut with large ring threads.

the pics were up. not sure what happened to them.

added them back in as attachments. kinda blurry sorry.

only a serial number on the ring on the same side as the "K98" mark. i'll post that # if that would help.

Could be a Kar98a:


my guess is a KAR98a which was a small ring large thread 98. Mine has KAR98 written in script on the side.
