Got a quick question. I've been kicking around moding my Bushmaster XM15-E2S with an adams arms piston kit:

My question is that in looking at my AR, it seems like everything is "welded" to the barrel. It may be the paint/coating, but before I look too much more into this I was wondering if anyone has applied one of these kits to their carbine or not? The other option is to cough up $300 more and get a whole new upper which would I'd prefer not to have to do.
Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.
