Im not a fan of 5.56, there is nothing wrong with the round,i just don't care for it. I don't care for 7.62x39 also, other then the fact that it is the most plentifull cartrige around, it has nothing going for it in my opinion.
I like 5.45x39 for reasons i can not articulate. I know it is ballistically inferior to 5.56 but it's fun to shoot and i just enjoy it.
My all time favorite is 7.62x51. I think this round is the cat's ass. There is nothing you can't do with it. It's a good assault rifle round, you can snipe with it, link it and put it in a lmg, hunt with it. The round shoots fairly flat and retains alott of punch at extended ranges. It's just a good all around cartrige in my opinion. YMMV

Every time someone asks me what my favorite round is, my answer is "30-06". While there are others that I enjoy shooting, the good old 30-06 remains my number one for reach out and touch someone, as well as just showing off in long distance shooting.

I don't really have a favorite. 5.45 is still cheap enough to have some fun. I have been shooting alot of. 22lr. Not much bang with that though.

Mine is the 7.62x54r. 123 continuous years in service, tons of different types, my collection is up to 84 different rounds from 14 countries.
It has real good stopping power, great range with my SVD and some 7N1, and it's cheap.

I like .30-06, I like 7.62x51 Nato. I don't like carrying the weight of the ammo. I like 5.56 loaded with heavier bullets 69 to 77 gr weights. The ballistic path of the 77 is about identical to 7.62 NATO.

45ACP 230 gr FMJ. Absolutely superior in every way to every other round ever conceived by the mind of man. Where else will you find a round that will shoot within .025 MOA in a hurricane at 200 yards but the slightest contact with its intended victim will render him brain dead, give his grandmother a brain embolism and cause 3 distant cousins to have spontaneous abortions.

You come up with the best descriptions.

As for me, for rifle it is 30-06, for pistol it is .45 ACP, for the reasons mentioned above (now that I know them).

While I feel you may be a little optomistic, I too share you enthusiasm for the .45 acp. While one of the least practical day to day rounds that I own, (only really good for one thing) it is probably my favorite to shoot.

While one of the least practical day to day rounds that I own, (only really good for one thing) it is probably my favorite to shoot. You have to clean the bore regularly with kerosene and a soft lint free rag then temper the clean bore with 2 to 3 drops of bacon drippings, no less, no more to maintain that standard of accuracy. The rest is a given.

I would have to give the nod to 45ACP as well, it's a fantastic round. I also have a special place in my heart for 9x19, i appreciate it's versatility
