A buddy of mine has this old .22 rifle. I briefly saw it last night but we had the Wives telling to hurry up so I didn't get to a really good look at it. His problem is some broken and missing parts and I told him I'd help find the parts. It looks like a Springfield 1903 with the stock only going half way the length of the barrel and the finger groove on each side of the forearm. I thought it was a Model 4 but not sure. The knob on the back of the bolt is bigger than other model 4's I have seen. Any ideas what it might be?

Could it actually be a Springfield Model 1922 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Springfield_Model_1922)?

Steve

I had one of those yrs. ago.
The only difference was it had a short bolt, not a converted 1903.

The stock looked like that but it had Savage on the barrel and a much shorter bolt.

Sounds exactly like the one I had. Mine was not a Savage, but a Springfield. Military training rifle.

I can catch up with him in a day or two and ask what it says. It was a 5 minute look-see and I could be wrong.

I was looking at the close up of the 1922 bolt. The one my friend has does not have the flip safety on the back of the bolt and it is a very basic bolt.

See if your buddy can take a pic and email it to you so you can post it.
Try to get a pic of the complete action up close.

Almost but the knob on the back of the bolt is bigger.

Paul, is this a repeater or single shot?

OK... It's a Savage Model 3. He sent me the pics. Now I can ask... where can I get parts? Numrich has nothing I need. Anybody have schematics?

Thanks Steve. That's what I needed. The firing pin/cocking knob assembly is broken on his rifle and I told him I would try to find him some parts.
