Need info on AK

I have an AK I just got, unfired, made by Guangdon Lingnan Ind. Corp . Any idea how rare it is? How many imported? s/n starts CGA , who really made them? There are no manufacture numbers to indicate who did make it ie; polytech, norinco? It has a underfolding spike bayonet. The only thing it has a problem with, is that the pin for the flash hider is stuck in on it. Any way to get it back out? Sorry for all the questions.

Yes you have a very rare rifle! If it is unfired, and you can stand it, I would keep it that way.

Your rifle was imported around 1986 by GLNIC, LA California. The CGA in front of the serial number indicates an early pre-"norinco" export. I don't think GLNIC stamped the rifles in an obvious location, sometimes in very tiny letters on the barrel which might not have been deep enough to stand the test of time.

To get the muzzle device locking pin out, I would soak the area in CLP or another good penetrating oil. They were held in by the front cross pin of the front sight/bayo block. If you can drive that cross pin out without damaging anything, that would give you a place to spray more CLP and possibly get the pin out. I would guess there is rust behind it, and not be surprised if the spring is rusted out. If you get it out, clean out the rust and if you need, replacements are available through Apex Parts.

And don't be afraid to ask questions. :thumbsup:

PS, there were no records kept of numbers of any of the Chinese imports and although the numbers of some rare versions can be accurately guessed, yours isn't one of them. Sorry.

Was crying too hard to reply before now! That is probably the deal of the decade in Chinese AK variants. If you could post a picture or three we would really appreciate it! You don't see many of those oldies that often, and especially in the condition you have it in!!!!!

I didnt get a box but It belonged to a friend that was 74 yrs old, the flash hider is just an east german muzzle nut I put on since the slant brake didnt stay on well with the holding pin pushed in.

Yep, that sure is a beauty. Even without the box I would guess around $1500.

As I said earlier, try soaking the muzzle device retaining pin in some kind of penetrating oil. If you are not good with hand tools, and don't feel bad because there are some people who just aren't and there is nothing wrong with that.

The front cross pin in the sight/bayo holder is what secures the retaining pin. As I said earlier, if you can get that out it will help getting the retainer out.

Knocking out the front sight cross pins is not an easy job on some rifles. Some come right out with a love tap, and some require some not so gentle persuasion with a heavy mallet. Also I use a punch holder which allows more power to the punch, and less to my hands when (not if) I miss the punch.

After getting the cross pin out, if the hammering hasn't shaken the pin loose, I have used a dental pick to push it out from inside the cross pin hole.

What ever you do, be careful not to damage the front sight base. Taping a piece of rubber around the area you are going to be punching can protect the area from the punch sliding, or a hammer miss.

Regardless, you did great and have one very nice piece of history there!

Well, I dont really collect them, I am more of a shooter. I have to decide down the road whether to keep it or end up selling down the road and buying several shooters.

Nice rifle... ridiculously low price! You are a thief! Good score. That is one you very much do not see often. I'd fix the pin and either sell it or save it unfired as a collector's item. It would be a shame to turn an unfired early import into a shooter at this stage.

So nice to hear a fellow Hoosier get a great deal on a Chinese AK variant.

Notice the way it is marked. The Chinese rifles were all commercially made for sale primarily in the USA. As far as I know they are the only ones who actually stamped the rifle with the US media term "AK-47" usually adding an "S" to try to make ATF happy by showing they were semi-auto only. They later started marking them with the Chinese designation of 56 and 56S, their official designation for what is more accurately an AKM. They did this as they tried to figure out what would really sell here.

Unfortunately before the AK/AKM caught on in the land of shall not be infringed, George Bush the First declared them as too evil looking which he was sure is what caused people to become criminals, and later william jefferson clinton just banned them altogether in two huge acts of constitutional violations.

And that is one of the things that makes the rifle you have so special!

I would suggest getting some Kroil from your local hardware store. Apply that to the retaining pin generously - letting it soak in around the pin. Let that sit overnight and then poke at it some more and see if it doesn't loosen up.

Also, when tapping pins out, be sure and use a punch that is the same diameter as the pin or just slightly less - that will help to avoid peening the head of the pin.

Thinking of selling it, I have a couple of guns I would like to get, would there be any interest in it if so? I am thinking $1300, I would like to get a ruger scout rifle and ruger bolt action 357.

No, I havent tried it. I will probably sell it the way it is and let the new owner do it. I am wanting to get a ruger scout and a ruger 357 bolt gun, so if I can get $1250 or so I would be close.

I agree that in today's dollars, that is a reasonable asking price. About the only thing that might hurt it is the stuck muzzle device pin if drastic measures are needed to unstick it.
