http://www.gallup.com/poll/150365/Gallup-Finds-Significant-Drop-Unemployment-During-October.aspx

From over 10% down to almost 8% in just over a year -- if this shit keeps up, the Republicans will have a very hard time unseating Obama, if the trend continues and unemployment is down below 6% by next November.

I know the Republicans have done everything to try to stymie growth and defeat jobs bills and keep people out of work in order to make Obama look bad, but demand is clearly picking up and businesses are reluctantly hiring, as more people are spending money.

Hopefully this means the "Great Recession" is officially over!

Surely you don't believe that?

First of all, "unemployment" numbers only count those still on SSI. It doesn't count those who have run out of benefits and still don't have a job.

Also, the numbers are skewed by "new jobs" where a formerly employed engineer who used to make $80K a year is now "employed"... at a shoe store making minimum wage.

Real, FUNCTIONAL employment is probably less than 90% (meaning more than 10% unemployment).

America's economy will NEVER... repeat NEVER recover until we start manufacturing in our own Country and put people from the unemployment line back to the production line.

"Stimulus" won't fix it. Smoke and mirrors won't fix it. Blaming republicans, democrats or unions won't fix it.

Doing away with foreign imports and getting back to MADE IN USA is the only way America will survive.

Anything else is an illusion.

The actual number of people in a paying job is down like 2.5 to 3 million since Obama took office and over two million have entered the work force. How anyone figures unemployment went down I don't know.

According to this unemployment is at 9.1% and has been in that range all year. You don't measure unemployment by polling.

O.S.O.K.
10-27-2011, 03:05 PM
Yes, Roger pretty much covered it but the numbers I've seen for actual unemployment is closer to 17% right now.

Further, government jobs should not count IMHO as they are a net drain on the system. Government doesn't produce anything, just renders "service" and is funded by taxes.

Unemployment, the way that the government counts it will continue to drop as more and more people reach their maximum allotment of unemployment benefits and drop off the chart. The number should drop eventually to 2% or something... but it is meaningless propoganda.

18%-22% is conservative.

New employment are soft numbers.
Fast food, minimum wage.

While industry struggles thru an austerity period and
continues making cuts. Even employees who remain will take
retardation in living wage, or further cuts in pay or benefits.

And with unemployment benefits lasting from 60 to 99 weeks, i would imagine that there would be a drop in their poorly calculated rate around now.

Where are the jobs?????

10,000,000 people working at Wacdonalds ISN'T A FUCKING ANSWER!

WIth all the OIL/Natural gas to be had in this country...... SOMETHING is amuck.

Where are the jobs?????

There are jobs. However, what we have today is a mismatch between the available jobs and qualified applicants. For example machinists are needed but we cannot quickly produce a qualified machinist.

10,000,000 people working at Wacdonalds ISN'T A FUCKING ANSWER!

Under other conditions much of our low qualified unemployed would be employed in the construction industry. Not union construction which Barry desperately desires of course but the non union construction industry such as housing and strip centers.

Each of us can guess when housing/strip center construction will again be a hot employer.

In a manner of speaking you are correct. The housing bust, which caused a lot of current problems, was programmed to fail but only after max damage was done.

1 out of 3 is on the public payroll

1 out of 6 is unemployed and only half of them is drawing unemployment.

Looking good. One brother works 2 jobs and just barely makes 40 hours a week. I have 2 sisters underemployed and 2 nieces unemployed. A brother a sister and I got retired due to disability from on the job injuries and I remember when we were all employed and 3 of us were working an average of 60 hours a week. One sister was working 3 jobs before she got injured.
