Last Saturday was youth day for does in WV. We got a late start, but that's another story.

At camp.

We did a little hiking around. Sat down, then my son was like DAD LOOK AT THAT!!

About 10 yards in front of us. Don't know how I missed it!

Then another 15 yards away.

We didn't see any deer, which is odd. Did see some turkies. He couldn't get a decent shot at them. Had a great time with my son. There is a monster in those woods!

I have never seen a tree that big horned up before. Those trees about 70 yards from our tree stand.

O.S.O.K.

Good for you Dad! And I'm glad it was a positive experience. He will want to go again! Keep trying! Great pics!!

This is how the afternoon ended up.

We were a llittle disapointed that we didn't see anything. Than morning would have been perfect. It was freezing and there was about an inch of snow on the ground. But, that's another story!

Your photos of being out in the woods, and hunting is getting me pumped for opening day over here in Pennsylvania. I hope that your son is able to find that monster buck on your next outing.

Can you legally shoot turkeys with a rifle in WV? I ask because here, in Missouri, it's a no-no. :smiley08:

Yes you can. I have shot them with .22 mag, .22 hornet. For the more skilled, you can even bow hunt them. I even once made the mistake of shooting a turkey with a .270. Never do that again!

Yeah, we can bow hunt them and of course shotgun. Anything else is verboten. How long does your fall season run? Ours is the month of October.:)

I'm sure he had big fun and will remember the day long into the future. Good job!

Your son looked like he was ready to rob a liquor store! Just kidding man, well done. He will remember that day long after you are gone.

Fall season is October 22 −

Limit two a year. Spring season is Gobbler only. Have to be out of the woods by 1 pm.
