"In Greece yesterday, little was done to calm the nerves of politicians and financial markets as Athens announced extraordinary plans to sack its military leaders amid rampant speculation that it was trying to head off a coup d’etat.
‘It’s all over. The government is about to collapse,’ said one Greek official. Greece’s former deputy finance minister Petros Doukas agreed: ‘The **** has hit the fan.’ "

The G20 summit meeting is this evening...

Looks like things are pretty much on the edge of ruination in Greece and if it goes down... could get ugly.

The possible military coup is one of the most disturbing news pieces, that I read about the crisis in Greece. I mean really, a military Coup in Europe during the 21st century? What's next, national socialists blaming the jews for all of the economic problems in Europe gaining power?

What are the ramifications of the rest of the world if this happens to Greece?

Mainly the fight to see which country's taxpayers are billed for the large bank's losses on loans to Greece. The US taxpayer will certainly get hit with 17% via the IMF. That's on top of the table. No telling what the Federal Reserve will do to us under the table.

Yes, that's my understanding too. Basically, the bailout deal was to avert default. And a default would result if a coup de tas ocurres - and as Wart said, that would then put the burden of debt on the lending banks - and if our fed doesn't bail them out.... they default... and from there I don't know - but it can't be good.

The fed may have to bail them out and if it does, that means it will be printing more money... which increases pressure on inflation... which would lead to interest rate increases which would increase the amount of debt that our country owes... and could then speed up our own default.

It's complicated... obviously. Best I can do...

Makes you wonder how things get this bad.

What happens when there are no more people to tax to the grave in order to bail stuff out.

Well, look at us right now. Obummer is still pushing hard to increase spending (so-called "jobs" bill).

And as far as countries go - there really is no one left to bail anybody out. Anything that we do will be with newly printed fiat currency. There's no other way to do it right now because nobody in their right mind would buy new us bonds.

Cypher, if you are old enough to have voted in the last presidential election check the mirror and see the enemy.

If we take broader view, we see our Representative Democracy in its last stage. We-the-peoples have discovered the fools and thieves we elect - and reelect more than 90% - will pay us more than we pay in to remain in power.

Well, now Germany and France have told Greece (thier PM) that the next loan scheduled for November and already approved will not happen - until aftter the voting on the referrendum... oops, this backfired on the idiot Greek PM.

They are playing hard ball with him - and for good reason - what do they have to loose?

And actually, they have something to gain - not paying that next loan - why pay it if Greece is just going down anyway? Doesn't make sense.

It 'is' that simple though I wish it was not. We've had a pretty good run. How many countries have been able to borrow $.42 of every dollar spent ??

And though broke we are BENEVOLENT. Dubya expended more than 4,000 American lives and tens of thousands wounded and maimed to make Iraq safe for China to pump her oil !!

Since the 5th year of the rein of Dubya I see the world as it is and not as I would like it to be.

$15 trillion in debt and $17 trillion almost assured by the end of October 2012. Round it off to $20 trillion October 2013, $23 trillion end of October 2014 and $26 - $ 27 trillion end of 2015. I don't us standing after 2015.

In the Rethuglican candidate group, we have a gathering of dwarfs. Cain is a womanizer and already trapped in too many lies. Perry appeared 'under the influence' in New Hampshire.

Barry vs Mitt.....Mitt vs Barry.

Little hard for me to see that sun.

Debt Increased $203 Billion in Oct. --$650 for Every Man, Woman and Child in America

At the end of September, the total national debt stood at $14,790,340,328,557.15, according to the Bureau of the Public Debt. By the end of October, it had risen to $14,993,709,044,140.78.

October is the first month of the federal fiscal year. If the debt were to increase by an average of $203 billion for the remaining 11 months of the year, the national debt would increase by $2.436 trillion for the year.

Yeah probably! lol

And Wart - I see the same thing with the debt - we are screwed. Totally. If you haven't noticed, I'm not exactly all sunshine and roses either... ;)

George Papandreou, the prime minister of financially crippled and politically roiled Greece, announced today that he will resign after the makeup of the nation's new coalition government is decided.
