The president’s daughters, Sasha (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/sasha/) and Malia (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/malia/), accompanied their father on the North Portico (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/north-portico/) of the White House (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/white-house/) for the event. As Mr. Obama (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/michelle-obama/) approached a docile, 45-pound bird named Liberty that had been placed on a table, the president held out his arm and jokingly made the Sign of the Cross over the animal.


“You are hereby pardoned!” the president said.


“In order to prepare Liberty and Peace for their big day, the students exposed them to loud noises and and flash bulbs so they’d be ready to face the White House (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/white-house/) press corps,” Mr. Obama (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/michelle-obama/) said. “They also received the most important part of their media training, which involves learning how to gobble without really saying anything.”

Gotta love it, a Muslim pretending to be a Church of Christ member playing at being a Catholic priest rescuing what should be his dinner. Get me a president of any faith who doesn't pretend to be what he isn't. Let that president lop off the head of the presidential turkey and donate it to a hungry family. I'm willing to bet they don't have to go far from the white house to find one.

I saw that on tv and was kind of what the hell is he doing?

It's one thing to jokingly lift an arm maybe palm up roman style and proclaim the turkey is pardoned, but the catholic bless you seemed more like he was giving it last rites!

It's not even the correct gesture let alone the idea of how utterly rude it is.

I've seen other presidents do the turkey pardon thing on tv, but never saw one as awkward and clusterfuckie as this one.

What he should do, if he had any stones, is release some wild ones on the WH grounds, then call them in with a slate call, whatever, then blast them with a shotgun! Now that, would be a photo op. ;)

Yes I just about threw up everything when I saw our sad commander in chief give a mock "blessing" to a turkey. A sad slap in the face to all Catholics. If he thought he was being cute, he blew it. There are times when a president needs a sense of humor, but this act made no sense.
