I'm removing the rear sight base on my 91/30 so that i can attach a dovetail to weaver adapter and mount a L.E.R. Scope on it for hunting. i removed the two pins holding it on fairly easily but the base wont budge. i've tried using a hammer and banging it out but don't want to completely ruin it in case i want to use it again in the future. any suggestions? thanks

The rear sight you have is pinned.
Since you have the pins removed, take a block of wood and tap the base forward.
It is in a dovetail and this is why it won't come off upwards or side ways.
Let us know it this works.

Hello,
What year is it?
The Russians got it in their heads that silver solder in the rear sight would be a good idea.
Look for that. If you find it, you'll have to risk heating it with gas, or take it to a gunsmith. I personally don't like to heat the barrel up enough in that area to melt the solder.
Regards,
Josh
