A new poll from Public Policy Polling shows that Ron Paul has taken the lead in the Iowa caucus race, while Newt Gingrich's support is fading fast. A different Gallup poll still shows Grinrich still holding the lead, but slipping, while The New York Times has Paul in the lead as well.

Gingrich has seen his numbers in the PPP poll drop from 27 percent to 14 percent in just three weeks, while his favorability rating is now split at 46 percent for to 47 percent against, the worst of any candidate not named Jon Huntsman. That's quite a fall for someone who looked to be running away with the state and taking charge on the national level.

Mitt Romney has also seen his tick up slightly, putting him just behind Paul for second place. The poll measured voters who are planning to vote in the Republican caucus.

Perhaps the most telling secondary question was, "Do you think Newt Gingrich has strong principles?" Only 36 percent say that he does, but for Paul that number was 73 percent.

Oh me, oh my! First it was Bachmann in the lead, then Perry, then Cain, then Newt... they rose to the top, only to fall spectacularly once the media tore them apart, chewed them up, and spit them out.

Now we'll have to see if Ron Paul can stay on top as everyone's guns turn on him -- only 2 weeks to the Iowa caucus!

Whoever wins there could have serious momentum going into the New Hampshire primary the week after, and South Carolina and Florida not long after that.

Personally, I think it would be great if Ron Paul won the nomination. The presidential debates with Obama would be epic... instead of a neo-conservative talking points about Obama's foreign policy of "apologizing" or "appeasing" everyone, we could have some serious discussion about Holder's prosecution of the war on drugs, Fast and Furious, the Patriot Act, and pulling the fuck out of Afghanistan and closing military bases around the world to seriously cut Federal spending.

The next month in politics could be very interesting indeed...

I don't think Ron Paul will ever get the nomination. It would be great though if nothing else to see him debate Obama. I hope he gets it but, the reality is the republican party establishment hates him.

I'm not in line with everything Paul advocates. But no candidate has ever mirrored my position on every issue (I'm sure most people can say that).

What's good about Paul is that he understands that we've got to do some RADICAL things to turn American around. Not tweak this law a bit, change that one by 3.5%, amend this one with a few more clauses, etc. If we don't flat turn the car around soon, we're going to crash into the big wall in front of us. Steering a little to one side or the other will only change our point of impact on said wall.

Imagine if they had done their job in 2008.

Yup, and remember guys, israel getting nuked and us turning our backs on a long time allie will do NOTHING to tarnish our national image to other allies! Yup, japan, s. korea, germany....they'll all STILL BELIEVE that we'll stand by them no matter what! Then the paul-idiots say we don't NEED allies.....well, then we see where THAT takes us. Some seriously arrogant and immature foreign policy people.....

Like I've said before, I will not vote paul anyday. He would virtually garuntee that in 4 years we'd be alone in the world.

As there is a nuclear Israel in the Middle East, I have no problem with a nuclear Iran. MAD - Mutually Assured Destruction - worked for many years with the Soviet Union and NATO.

As much as many of you here hope, the United States will NOT go to nuclear war to protect Israel.

Note that I said I'd rather vote RP over Newt, truthfully I'd rather vote Santorium or Huntsman over RP. It's just I rate Newt below Romney and I'm not planning on voting for that guy either... I'm also not sure I'd say anyone could predict the future well enough to know that's a fact. Besides I'm sure we would not be able to just leave the area regardless of RP being President or that Israel is as helpless in all this as some must think they are. You know it's not exactly a given that RP becomes President and Israel gets nuked...
