Hello everyone, I'm about to start a good job in a few days, and since I'm about to turn 21 in a month, I'd like to buy a 1911. I want an ambidextrous model, since I'm a lefty and a full sized model, from a brand made in the USA. So what are my options?

Check Springfield Armory. I really like mine.

You are generally have to go to an upgrade model to get the ambidexterous safety but if this is too much, then you can buy the milspec model and an aftermarket drop-in ambi safety.

I'm thinking around $800-$1,000

That's a really nice pistol OSOK, but my brother has a Springfield and it's made in Brazil. Are all of the Springfield pistols made in Brazil, or are there some exceptions?

Justin, you are correct. Frames for SA 1911A1 pistols are made by Imbel in Brazil.

Here is a short list that might fit your needs:

Colt Mfg.
XSE Series
Rail Gun
Special Combat Government

Kimber
Custom II series
Gold Match II series
Raptor II series
Tactical II series

Smith & Wesson
SW1911 "E" series
SW1911 series

Hope this helps!

Didn't Taurus buy Imbel? Would that make Springer 1911's a Taurus derivative? ;)

I kid...

Thank you all for the help, does anyone know if the Ruger sr1911 is out in the ambidextrous model yet?

Ruger is only offering the SR1911 (http://www.ruger.com/products/sr1911/models.html) with the standard thumb safety. But with any 1911A1 it wouldn't take too much for a gunsmith to switch in an ambidextrous version.

Here's another option then - I think Remington makes theirs domestically... price is in your bracket -just needs an ambi safety added. 1911's are not hard to work on - and there are plenty of youtubes to guide you.
