Oregon store closed by Washington state tax fiasco. It seems Washington state says the company owes several million in taxes for selling mattresses in Oregon to people who live in Washington. Rather than work out a payment plan after given $200k cash for the taxes supposedly due, The state demanded its money in full forcing the sell off of inventory and closure of the store, laying off 130+ employees. So Washington will not get the millions+ $ in taxes it feels are due from the Oregon company, 130+ people will now go on unemployment, the seven retail centers renting space to the company will have vacant buildings, fewer income taxes will be paid to Oregon's, city and state, fewer utilities collected by the phone and power company, all because they (state of Washington) would not negotiate a payment plan with the owners as requested by mattress world. This is what happens when the government gets too powerful. All this because mattress world acted as a middle man for deliveries of the mattresses rather than just referring the buyers to the firm that made the deliveries.

Makes you wonder why Oregon allowed this to happen.

I listened to enough to know the mattress company owner either has an awful attorney or, more likely, no attorney.
