What's your primary goal with reloading? Is it for cost savings? Because of availability ("obsolete" calibers)?, to get the best performance? What?

For me, its a combination of cost and performance mostly. Yes, I also have a few set ups for calibers that are hard to find too.

Back when I was shooting CAS, it was definately about cost and at first about performance because there were'nt any comercial "cowboy" loads available. Though, my loads were pretty standard - only with rnfp boolits.

So, what about you?

I reload for cost savings and accuracy. I only reload 223 for my Coyote rifle. Factory ammo just doesn't deliver the accuracy I want.
I load 223s w/ X-Terminator and 55 gr. Hornady V-Max. Gives sub MOA accuracy out of my Stevens 200. Can't ask anymore from the reloads.

5 shots @ 100 yds.

I have a Remington LH 700 BDL that I had rebarreled & chambered in .25-.284 Win. some years ago. I use it to reach out and poke holes in paper at a distance. I handload everything for it. I also reload for my Ruger No.1S chambered in .300 Win Mag. to maximize its performance.

I can shoot a LOT more for the same cost. I also like to tinker for accuracy with some of my rifles and have had some really good results. There is no factory load that can match a good handload for a particular rifle.

Cost/availibility/accuracy. Load in winter and shoot rest of time.

Primary reason is California ban on handgun ammo sales without ID due in Feb2011. Secondarily, to have something besides lead round nose bullets for my .45 Long Colt and last, I also load .256 Winchester Magnum which is commercially unavailable as far as I can tell.

What about a lead ban? I've read something about that on CalGuns.
