Anyone know of a wildcat round or maybe a European production round based on the 7.62x54r? Just curious if anyone had ever necked one up or down to create a new cartridge?

Was thinking it would be interesting to take a thrashed M44 or 91/30 and swap the barrel and chamber it for something like a 7.62x54r necked down to .223 or maybe a shortened case necked up to .45cal and suppressed. Just tossing out ideas here. I believe the Finns or someone use a 7.62 x53r but that may be the same round.

left to right :5.7x53R, 6.5x54R, 7x54R, 8.2x54R, 9x53R and 9.3x53R

This might give you an idea of what is possible.

Cool. I would think that the 6.5 version would be the most useful... to me anyway. Probably about the same as a 6.5x55...

i belive the 9.3x54r is popular in some african countries for use by dangerous game hunters. i read about it in a hunting magazine in teh doctors office a while back.

those 9.3x53r rounds IIRC arefor the Russian 'Medved' BEAR rifle.
THey have a SVD that shoots the same caliber too.

I've always wanted to take 30-06 and neck up to 115gr 9mm bullets. basically would need a .355 barrel blank and a reamer.

That's basically a 9.3x62. http://archives.gunsandammo.com/content/the-93x62-mauser

but not in double rifle power.

Maybe something in a Semi platform.

Those are very similar to 338-06 and 35 Whelen - you can chamber them all in any semiauto action that will handle 30-06.
