When I bought my Polytech 762 it came with a SKS spike bayonet instead of the real deal. Just picked up a new spike with lug, spring, and pin. Now all I need is someone show me how to do this.

Can anyone walk me through how to remove the old bayo with the real deal?

It's been a few years since mine was done, but everything I can remember revolves around this rivet.

In order to remove the old one, you'll have to drive this one out and remove the parts. To reassemble, just reverse the process.

Just try to avoid stabbing yourself in the process.

(BTW, that's a converted MAK 90 there.)

If you have the new pin then you could very easily get a drill bit a little larger than the pin and drill the peened over edge of the old pin off on one side and punch it out of the opposite side. Then just insert your new bayonet with new pin and lay a ball peen hammer head in the indent of the pin and peen it over on both sides using an anvil or similar heavy metal for a bucking bar. It peens over easy enough and doesn't take much to hold it in.

The bayo is spring loaded so that you don't have to remove the original rivet that it fits over. Look at the bayo and notice how the lock slides back to allow you to put it around the rivet (pin). You have to align the bayo at an odd angle to get it to engage the pin and the lock to slide back into place capturing the rivet as it does so.

The original Poly Tech AKMs were shipped with the bayo seperate from the rifle and you had to install it after purchase. There is no need to drill out the original rivet, or cross pin unless the bayo from the SKS does not have this feature.

Once you see how the lock works on the bayo, you can see how easy it is to install and remove the bayo without any modifications to the front sight at all.

Oh, in case it isn't obvious, remove the cleaning rod before attempting the above. :D
