I am looking to buy a tent in the next couple of months to go hunting/camping as the temperature gets cooler. I will have my girlfriend with me so it should definitely be a 2-3 person or larger. I would like to have room to put our bags, gear and guns in the tent with us. I am looking for ease of setup and toughness. What do my fellow GNers suggest?

Thanks
Sherm

That's a tough question without some more info.

Are you looking for something in bright colors?
Something camouflaged?
Are you placing the tent in a vehicle and dropping it off at your camping spot?
Are you fixing it to a back pack and humping it into the woods?
What?

I prefer darker colors to not stick out in the woods. Camo would be nice.

It will be a ground tent.

I will not be fixing it to a backpack or going hiking with it. I may in the future but not in the next couple of years. It will be driving to the place where we will be camping, unloading gear, setting up tent and camp.

Thanks

OK then.

Get a wall tent. An old fashioned type expedition tent. You can find these at Cabelas and such - on sale. They allow you to stand up in the tent and have a stove. You will have plenty of room for a large double blow-up bed (my recommendation for you and your woman). Be sure and get a good quality blow-up bed though as it will be cold as hell if it deflates and your buns hit the dirt...

For guys - cots are preferable.

Even better - they make double inflatable beds with an expanding "structure" under them.

How much money do you want to spend? :)

Both of these places have some nice stuff.

Sherm,

Here's a good site for wall tents. http://www.walltentshop.com/index.php

I like Montana Canvass. Also, Davis Tents is a good product. Don't forget a stove...

Hey, one of these with a stove would be great for a deer camp.

Paladin, I was looking through that site and the thing that struck me was how big some of their offerings were. I could see putting say a 14 x 20 unit with stove on a raised platform in a sheltered location and having a hell of a setup. Pretty cool.

If your looking for something smaller than a large canvas tent, I know the Eureka USMC tents are pretty darn tough, weatherproof, and great for weekend runs...2-3 person..
Ive had mine for years, and love it...

I really want a kodiak tent, much like the one posted above, but money is tight right now...The guns and guitar funds are more important than a cloth mobile home at the moment!

Here is one,

If you look around Im sure you will find one for far cheaper than that price though.

Here's a link to Davis Tent's photo gallery. Click on the "Home Sweet Home" section. Other people agree with you...

For family camping I bought this one about 8 years ago. Used it deer season once also. Works well, but not the best option during torrential rain.

That canvas tent place has some nice stuff.
That Canvas tent weighs in at 60 lbs. May have to save that link for the future when I have kiddos.

That type of tent is more of what I am looking for.
