Been noticing a lack of .357 production lately (mostly ads and stock in stores)

I know some might say .357 is an outdated round mainly due to revolver only status however this is a good punch packing round !

Hornady Tap isn't in production for this round is .38 ?

Is it because only / mostly women choose revolvers anymore (huge women's self-defense boom)

Most women don't want a .44 or .357 , they want something manageable like the newly resurected .380 acp or .25's and .32's , maybe topping out at 9mm and .38's !!

I peruse the ammo pages in various gun rags and .357 is dwinddling .....or is it ?

If you are seeing low stocks on .357 Mag, it's most likely because of the increasing number of people prepping. The numbers are on the rise. The NICS was up again in January over 2010 - 117% IIRC.

New gun owners are often steered to a good revolver - simpler manual of arms, etc.

So, I'm betting that's it.

Plenty of .357 mag around here.

I'm a fan.

I've never heard anyone badmouth the .357. Ever. Weird.

Also, can be had in Desert Eagle flavors if you want a magazine fed semi auto.

Personally I'll take a 10mm for the same balistics in a semi, but that's just me.

One of my favorite pistols on the market is the Ruger Bisley Blackhawk in .357. Pure class.

That ad just screams "will need premium ammo, an extensive break-in period, and possibly some gunsmithing, plus mags are ridiculously expensive."

From what I've read it works very well, and all that may be necessary are different spring weights for whichever type of ammo you want to use.

I have a .357 because I was looking for a revolver in a good caliber. If I wanted an auto with a lot of punch I'd honestly have to go with a 10mm Glock or a Delta Elite.

Nope, I didn't get one. Just saw a good looking picture of it from Coonan's FB page :).

Nothing against the Coonan, it's a cool ride and just the thing for the guy that want's to be the only kid on the block with....

But practically speaking, a G20 is a much more practical choice to get that power level +.

10mm makes 357 look pansy IMO. my steel silhouette load with a 155 gr bullet at 1525 FPS will knock over an 85 lb ram easily.

So... you're a speed freak :coffee:

My Glock is a fixed sight shooter so I tend to stick with more "standard" velocity ammo.

with 10mm, "standard" still makes a 357 look pansy-ish.....

Oh, I wouldn't say that. It's really a great levergun round - comes right up behind the 30-30 in power level but is much much more efficient.

In handguns, it is only as outdated as the revolver. Keep in mind that single action revolvers were all but considered "dead" and then came back to a huge popularity...

No, the .357 Mag is a very efficient and useful cartridge and revolvers allow for much more flexibility in loadings and bullet shapes.

I got my first 357 last year. A nice Model 19. I missed out on a stainless steel version last gun show cause I didn't have the cash in my pocket at the time. Won't say how much the guy wanted for it but I'm POSITIVE some other table picked it up for the price he was asking. :(

As far as the coonen goes. I'd take one if the price was right.
