Earlier today, commenter C Young posted the following the following comment underneath RF’s Kel-Tec KSG review (http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2011/12/robert-farago/gun-review-kel-tec-ksg/). We contacted him for photos.

Not good for Kaltec but it might be good for aftermarket company's that mill billet ....I am actually looking at buying a new shotgun and this was on the list of three I was tiring to decide on...M1014 or a Sagia12 being the other two....

That.....will cause me to not buy one....yet.

Seriously though, there is no such thing as a good plastic rail.
What the hell were they thinking.

To replace that rail with some aftermarket one you're going to have to remove that entire pump part and modify/replace it because it's molded into it.

Kel Tec’s Follow Up re: Broken KSG Rail

Posted on February 10, 2012 (http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2012/02/daniel-zimmerman/kel-tecs-follow-up-re-broken-ksg-rail/) by Dan Zimmerman (http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/author/daniel-zimmerman/)

In our last episode (http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2012/02/daniel-zimmerman/pump-gun-problem-kel-tec-ksg-rail-ruptures/), AI member C Young relayed a, well, problem he encountered with his KSG’s plastic lower rail. But he’s been in contact with Kel Tec’s customer service operation and they seem to be very responsive so far. We pass on the following email string with permission. . .

Kel Tec’s initial response when told of the broken rail:
I’m very sorry to hear that. It’s the first time I’ve heard that happening.

Damn, that one was on my short list. Hopefully they will redesign it.

You probably should NOT put a long grip for-grip on a plastic rail.. on a heavy recoiling rifle.... But I have plastic rails on guns and they are light. as long as you respect the limitations (i.e., nothing with big fulcrum angle), it won't be a problem.

This is just my opinion. No flaming, but I would never trust anything from Keltec. Ever.

I had a 9mm that was truly Jennings-ish in quality and function. It went click click boom. Severl pulls of the trigger. Their plastic feels cheap. Nothing about that company impresses me in the slightest.

I know people have had great luck with theirs, but I'm not interested in them at all.

keltec is great about design advancements and building tomorrows weapons today. but they have a habit of rushing these items to market before they are throughly tested (dead trigger anyone?), and before they can supply enough to meet market demand. plus the huge demands made of thier production lines means quality suffers and customer service is left in teh dust.

as stupid as this is going to sound, hi point has a far better marketing strategy. case in point the 45 acp 4595TS carbine. It was held up from release several times (over a year IIRC) so design issues coud be fixed before it was released. there was much talk over whether or not it would ever come out. But when it did, it was a solid, reliable, high quality product with plenty of invetory available for sale. HP had taken the time to work out all the bugs in testing, and had production lines running at full capacity to bring the product to market. keltec could take a few lessons from that.

They should do up a bullpup in 223, one that's not fugly like the m17.

The wife and I are quite pleased with out P32's but that being said I've not purchased anything else from Kel-Tec. Perhaps for good reason.

Yeah, I think I'm in the minority. It just left me sour on them. So, maybe someday I'll try again.

Btw, shot my S&W this Saturday. What a pleasure to shoot accurate as can be!

Glad to hear it. Was just thinking about asking you if you'd shot it yet. I've still got that 4" if your ever interested.
