Here are a couple M39s

Post war rebuilds with virgin VKT barrels (one '43, and one '44) and new post war wood. Both receivers are Tula, from 1905 and 1908. They flat shoot....Especially with 182gr Bulgy Heavy Ball, and make my M14 work hard to rule the roost out to 300m

The M39 is a fantastic mod on the Mosin, and are a great value for daily shooters and entry level service rifle match shooting. You may pay a little more for an M39 than a Mosin, but once to shoot them, you'll see where that extra couple bucks went. I found it amazing when cleaning these rifles of storage grease, the stocks had serial# reference stamps in them and were precisely shimmed between the action and the stock in the area of the take down screws for an exact fit. That and the fact they have 100+ year old receivers that have seen God knows what during the last century.

Thanks for the kind words.

I went back to get a couple more, as I want to "sporterize" one with a Fajen stock, and scope it. Sadly, for the last 6-8 months I have not been able to find any more unissued post war rebuilds. I got these two from Milsurps.com, and told a couple of buddies, and they received rifles just as nice. Oh well, at least I got a pair while it lasted. Real nice import markings. TGI Knox TN 7.62 Russian all in one line faintly etched under the cleaning rod on the barrel. No reciever artwork and advertising from the importer thankfully. Our local gunshop got a crate of laminated Mosins in, beautiful matching number rifles with kit for $129. The whole left side of the receiver flat on the hex was dot matrix stamped with crap....What a shame. If it wasn't againt the law I suppose you could mill it and refinish. Reminds me of when Blue Sky was using a 5 ton press to stamp import marks on carbine barrels and actually bending them. What a bargain.

Those stocks are beautiful. My stock is ugly and the guy I bought it from had just graced the right side with two fresh gouges, one under the bolt and the other under the magazine well on the right side earlier in the day on the day of sale.

I still love it even with the Boris Karloff touch up.

Those are keepers. Very good looking weapons and if you leave them in original condition they will appreciate greatly in value over the decades. You didn't mention what you paid per rifle. I will be shocked if it is under $300 per rifle. 10 years ago I was buying such rifles for $110 each in bulk from Classic Arms in North Carolina. I reference this price to show you a bench mark for what they were worth to what you paid for them now.

Sadly I sold all of mine, they are great firearms but I had to decide what to keep and what to sell. The FN FAL rifles and AR-15's wone out.

$285 for the one with the black cleaning rod, $335 for the one with the raw cleaning rod. I knew this was pricey going into it, as there were a lot out there in the $180-$240 range at the time. I had seen them years ago for under $100... I just had difficulty finding "as new" rebuilds, or rifle in as good or better shape for ANY price. The day the first one came in I called right back within minutes and bought the second one, it was that apparent. I've unwrapped and cleaned up a thousand Carbines and Garands and the like over the years, and I am used to thinks looking a little dark before the dawn, if ya know what I mean. It was like a one second "Oh Shit" when I unboxed the first one, and I picked up the phone. The upper rifle sits in the safe after about 50 rounds of test fire, and the lower rifle has a little over 700 rounds through it. I aquired the rifles a little over a year ago. I aim to give that top rifle with the flamed out wood (the pics don't do it justice) to my future Son in law. He's a damn good kid and treats my daughter good. He asked me the other day "what do you think about Mosins", and I told my girl not to let him rush out and buy one, wink wink...

Like I said...They shoot, and will stay right with my LRB match rifle to about 300m, where the sight on the M14 starts taking over. It'll pretty much 10 and X ring SR21 targets at 100m all day long.

LOVES that old yellow tip Bulgy ball. If anyone knows where to find more of that ammo, I'd appreciate the hook up.

Look on GB for riles listed by Milsurp.com (no affiliation with me, other than they are awesome folks) Their descriptions are fair and accurate. I'm still looking for at least 1 more. I want to fit it to a AAA Claro Fajen blank I have, full Mannlicher style, bend and butterknife the bolt, and my neighbor has a trick CNC machine to build a cantalever scope mount that uses the rear sight base, and the forward portion of the hex receiver drilled and tapped. Finish the whole thing in satin glass bead blue. I have the perfect old 4x Leupy LER with a German #3 reticle to go on there. That's the idea anyway...LOL

Thanks for the kind words guys.
