I see it as a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. Is the Sheppard's hook really that hard to install correctly?

I have two WASR's and two retaining plates. I refinished the metal on both of them with bake on brownell's finish. To do this you of course, want to take the rifle completely apart - it fit in my oven diagonally no problem, held up off the top screen by coat hanger hooks.
I had never taken apart the FCG on an AK before this. I read someone's instructions on getting the shepards crook back in place and the plate looked so much easier, and dirt-cheap. You can fiddle with a 2 cent piece of wire for gosh knows how long when reassembling, or pop the plate back in in 10 seconds. For me it was an easy choice, YES the plate is worth it.
