OG no worries, now that the primaries are over people are donating! :santa2: We have cards to hand out, I will send you one. I started with one thousand of them, those are going fast so we ordered 4 thousand more.

I went out on the bike today since I gave my son the car to go to a job interview. I think the bike made people like me more. A guy and his wife who have a landscaping business talked to me at length when they saw me getting my stuff out of my trunk. I stopped in a garage and asked if I could put up a sign on his corner and he was glad to. Its the main intersection through two of the towns. The bike also helped break the ice... who would a thought.

I got 4 more yard signs and people think they know me because the signs have my photo on them, this is what a guy from the party told me I should do and its working. There is a picture of the sign on the front page of my Website, Im holding it up at our "triangle rally" in the center of the larger of the towns.

The Mayor told me he will go door to door with me in Sept & October, hes very popular has been the mayor for 35 years and does a good job. This will help.

Looks like I may actually get elected...:tooth: Then I will be in trouble.

Heck yes the bike. Here's a link to an obituary you might like to read.
http://www.jsonline.com/news/obituaries/29416359.html
He made governor of Wisconsin by getting an old bus, building a back porch on it and then drove town to town and gave whistle stop speeches from the back of the bus like they used to do from trains. His bus and his red vest got him attention, a group of high school kids on top of the bus playing instrument s got him a crowd. Anything that sets you out from the crowd and tickles the people is better than a limo and a mess of press agents.

I tried to post a picture of his old school bus but it was to large.
http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/whi/fullimage.asp?id=55067

The link works though, notice the fake train wheels on his bus. Maybe time to unzip the imagination and dress up the bike for when its a nice day to ride. Maybe posters that you could pass out to other bikers for mounting on their rides.

Just a thought from the dinosaur corner.

Brian, when you go through the main gate of Mt. Rainier, tell them you're going to get your veteran's disability pass. Make sure you bring your VA medical card and any other proof that you're rated as disabled with the VA. They'll issue you a national parks pass that will allow you in any national and some state parks for free. The bad news is they still can charge you for parking. Mt Rainier doesn't, but Mt Rushmore will.

Mt Rainer has so much to see that you may have to take several days to see it all. The biggest problem is to see some of the sights, you're going to have to go outside of the park and go around to another town to get to the road to the other sights. Fortunately, most of the park is linked by internal roads, so you can see most of the park without leaving.

The problem with having flat land for shooting is it'll have to be stripped of trees for the range. At least where the range is. This means you need more land if you want trees. I kept going round and round with Lil one on this. She wants lots of trees and brush like on this side of the mountains, but wants a shooting range. Problem is, land is expensive on this side of the State. You'll pay more for five acres of land with no house or 10 acres of land without a house on this side of the mountains than you would for 100 acres of land or more on the other side of the mountains.

The liberal politicians in this state figured the citizens should pay a tax if you have a view. If you can see the mountains or water, you have a view and will get taxed. Some landowners figured out that the state usually take pictures of their land in the winter to justify the view. No leaves, nothing to block the view from the mountains of water. The land owner return in late Spring with another picture as proof that there's no view. That usually takes care of that tax until the next time the land get assessed.

I forget who is was in the General Discussion, but he was going around refurbishing fire lookouts. He posted a picture of one that gave me an idea for a shooting cottage. It had a deck all the way around. Living quarters, and what looked to be a kitchen. Because it was slightly higher than the land around, you would have a good shot from the deck. The deck would also make a great place to kick back, read a book, and listen to music.

Our Seattle liberals are talking about taxing collected rainwater. They figure it's water that is stored for use, therefore it's water that should be taxed. If Seattle gets away with this, our State capital will soon follow! It's one more reason I want out from this side of the mountains.

I know a rancher in Eastern Washington who put cammo nets up over the Quonset huts that he keeps his bales of hay in. He said the state taxed him for the structures. Because of the location, he figured the State used Google Earth or Maps to find the buildings. It's been two years since he put the nets up, and the taxes are no longer. :D

HDR there was at least one million people there. It was the most amazing experience, when the geese flew over they wend right over us. A helicopter was circling slowly over head, getting photos of the crowd. It circled wider and wider so we assumed they crowd was gathering beyond the trees where we couldnt see any further.

A friend of mine came with me, shes older than me but a Med student. We left on the side where the Sharpton protesters were approaching, they were angry looking and wouldnt make eye contact but they walked past without making trouble.

The crowd was the most amazing group of civil people I ever saw. The girl who sang was at the Washington Memorial the night before singing on a wall. Nice.

Great! I get more and more signs up everyday. Today at the "Fall Festival" my campaign manager Alice and I met two people who told us story of how incumbent I am running against was rude and disrespectful to them at their door. They wanted my sign to put in their yard, when we put the info into our database we saw they are Democrats, the party of the incumbent!!! LOL

That is happening all over the three towns. I stopped at a house today, and a guy showed me his car.. he got a license plate at the DMV that said "nobama". He was giddy about it too. He and his wife wanted 2 yard signs one for each end of their yard. Similar things played out all day today. We got 8 signs up, I think I am almost to 2 thousand houses visited, hoping to reach 10K. I even went door to door on the bike...LOL I am having more fun than I thought possible, or maybe should be allowed to have.

How to Make Sandals with an Old Tire

Get an old tire or part of a tire. You'll need one that doesn't have steel belts.
Cut two sandal bottoms from the tire. You can used a pair of sandals or flip-flops that already fit as a pattern. This is best done with a sawing motion while holding the tire under some tension.
Cut two foot straps for each sandal. They need to be long enough to hold your feet snugly in the sandal with a little extra to go through the sandal. These are best made with a piece of nylon such as an old dog leash or seat belt. There are a number of ways to arrange the foot straps. Model yours on a pair of sandals or flip-flops you like. You could have one strap going over the foot and one between your toes. Probably the easiest is to cut two strips which will go parallel over the top of your foot, one towards the front of the foot and one nearer the ankle.
Melt the ends of the foot straps after you cut them. This is so they don't fray. You can use a hot cutter or a heated metal tool.
Punch slots for the foot straps in the sandals. Use a screwdriver or a chisel and a hammer. Remember that the tread of the tire is the bottom of the sandals.
Push the foot straps through the slots with a screwdriver or pull them through with pliers. You'll want some extra strap poking through the bottom of the sandals.
Try out the sandals. Make sure the straps are snug and comfortable.
Melt the foot straps so that they attach to the bottom of the sandals. You want them to stay put. You could try tying a knot instead of melting them.

Tips and Warnings

You'll probably have to put some work into getting the foot straps to be comfortable and figuring out what configuration you like. Walk around for a while before you attach them permanently.
You could try making straps with rope or fabric or rubber strips. The foot straps need to be durable but comfortable.

I'll donate the tire from my old Chevy, Good Year bias ply tire with less than 10,000 miles on it. It should last you and your grandchildren for the next 40 years or so. I'm to cheap to buy you shoes because I know how expensive they are but I'm never going to use this tire again. Happy to help the cause.

Good luck but unless the kid who took it is dumber than a rock with a big mouth you are probably out of luck. Nothing twists my guts in a knot quicker than a thief.

And Filipinos, Africans, Malaysians, Mexicans, Tree hugging Hippie types and plain old outdoorsmen without a lot of money. They are great for working around rocky beaches, you don't have to worry about messing up your shoes or boots, doesn't hurt the sandal, protects the sole of the foot but o'boy can you get a weird sunburn on the top of your foot.

Janet some hand crafted gator boots would be great! Does brother Jim also wrestle gators?

old Grump
09-22-2010, 12:29 AM
James doesn't have to wrestle them, he has 18 wheels. All of them are huge Michelin tires. Gator hide would be tenderized but not much good for tanning. Little rough on armadillos, zebras, giant panda's, little leprechauns and skunks. Best part is he doesn't even have to get out of the cab till he's gone far enough to wear the skunk off. Volkswagen's are a different story, they get caught in the tread and make an irritating clank, clank, clank sound as he goes down the highway until they finally wear down.

Janet
09-22-2010, 12:09 PM
OG you are wordy , but you didnt splain why james 01 doesnt hafto wrestle them, there might still folks out there that dont know that gaters are truck tire peices. and there are a pair of [real] gater boots in a store near me, they wont hold up in a snow storm. or even a light rain, and too expensive to wear out side anyway.

I'm not to sure about the gator boots in winter, those are warm weather beasts and I'm pretty sure they don't insulate well. How about a Wisconsin Badger or Black Bear. Hey, I just remembered you have bears their in good old Connecticut. Have one of your brood go out and get one, tan it and have boots, coat, mittens and hat made up for you.

I'm only guessing here but I bet the German made Volkswagen does it with a German accent, Klank, Klank, Klank. An Italian Fiat would be Mama Mia, Mama Mia, Mama Mia. A Norwegian car would probably go Click, Ping, Click, Ping, Click Ping.

I told her to keep an eye out for a silver cross when she drives through the desert. I was there back in 86, and Im pretty damn sure a guy told me that a famous chief was burried standing in his grave by that cross. Could someone enlighten me on this? I spoke in Hartford today at the "Drain the Swamp" rally. Chesty Puller was who I quoted, bet no one expected that. I led a prayer for the Military. It was an honor.

Posting the part of the speech and the prayer below:

"Good afternoon Everybody I am so Honored and Grateful to be addressing you.

First I am offering my deepest gratitude and a prayer for our Military and Veterans, without all of you we would not have the Freedom to assemble and speak out here today.

Dear God we pray for our couragous Military Sons and Daughters who serve in harms way, please watch over them and keep safe from harm and guide their way until we can welcome them home with open arms.
Amen

To those who have served please accept my deepest gratitude, Welcome Home and Thank YOU for your service.

My hope for our newest returning Veterans is that they will find Connecticut a place where they will seek and find opportunity, and raise their families and enjoy all of the blessings that they have so duly earned.

quoting Marine Corps Hero, the eternal optimist and most decorated Marine ever and the only Marine to be awarded 5 Navy Crosses. LT General Lewis B. "Chesty" Puller USMC,

"All right, they're on our left, they're on our right, they're in front of
us, they're behind us...they can't get away this time"...

I am so inspired by his raw unbending tenacity. Thank God for men like him willing to put up their all so we can sleep soundly at night. "

That was a great speech Kathy!

It also reminded me that WWII not only has some of the best quotations of any war; there are so many of them...

This one is from Bastogne:
"On December 23, the American forces received a note, from the Germans, ordering their surrender. General McAuliffe reply when he first receive the note was "Aw nuts." The reply was given back to the Germans. They asked Colonel Joseph Harper what that meant. Col. Harper's reply was "If you don't know what nuts means, in plain English it is the same as 'Go to hell. And let me tell you something else if you continue to attack we'll kill every goddamned German that tries to break through our lines."

Actually the "Aw nuts" was only part of General McAuliffe's reply and no I am not filling in the blanks. However the "If you don't know what nuts means, in plain English it is the same as 'Go to hell" which is so fitting for today's political arena.Kathy, just for you :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Don't know if it will help you or not but a trick I learned about a hundred years ago was to lose the podium. In speech competitions and classroom presentations I would just stick my note cards in my pocket, step away from the podium and talk to my audience. It was more natural for me and even if I missed a few points the personal eye to eye contact made up for it. Take the microphone with you.

Try a slightly lower pitch instead of worrying about volume. Slow down a little and don't be afraid to take a deep breath when you need it. Nothing will lose me faster than a breathless speaker talking to fast. Feel free to pause and let what you just said to sink in while you think about your next step.

Talking outdoors is a whole nother ball game. Try rehearsing someplace like an open field or in a patch of woods with minimal use of notes. Not getting echo feed back like you do inside changes how your voice sounds to you and makes outdoor talking harder. Disregard as necessary but this is what works for me. Hope some of it helps.

kathy
10-05-2010, 04:20 PM
Thank you OG, great advise and I remember wishing I could just take the mic in my hand. And wishing that I had practiced the speech more. But in retrospect just saying what came to mind may have been better.

My Army son called late last night, he cast his vote for his jabba the hutt mom! And he and his bride to be are coming here to get married in December.

Life is good.:bump:

old Grump
10-05-2010, 05:35 PM
just saying what came to mind may have been better.Yep. When you start talking you know what points you need to hit and there is nothing wrong in leaning more one way than another when you get a rhythm going. It's just more natural when you are talking to them instead of at them and audiences pay more attention to a talk then they do a speech.

So its going to be Christmas and anniversary and victory celebration, (I hope) in December. Hot diggety, have a hot apple cider for me because I'll be wishing them blessings and luck.

You will post at least one embarrassing picture of the wedding or the wedding party I hope.

So to all of you that has survived life this far. Enjoy it. Be an asshole or whatever. But enjoy it. Thats an order.....

I thought of you today, I came to a door where the sweetest little old lady lived. She insisted I come in to see a "gun" her son left when he passed away. It was a small cannon. A little smaller that the one in the video you posted. She felt the need to show me because I gave her a writing pen that the "Nothing but Ammo" store owner gave me.

A sparrow started to sing in the tree next to us, and she said "Jesus Loves You Little One". It struck me as such a beautiful moment. She asked me to please come back when I could have tea.

I will. Some may think Im nuts but What a lovely gift it was to encounter this delightful woman.

Kathy, something I learned in public speaking was to talk to the people not as a whole, but to one here, another there, and someone else elsewhere. Keep looking at different parts of the crowd and single out one person to speak to for a couple of seconds. That person and those around that person will feel like you're talking to them. Smile and nod to them when you talk. Gesture to the individual too. It'll make the speech feel more personal to the audience.

I'm proud to know you and think it's outstanding that you're pursuing this to correct the path our Government went. It's part of the American process!

Different truck. That was the 1/2 ton supercab 4x4. This is a 3/4 ton crewcab 4x4.

Is your engine a coil over plug? One coil for each sparkplug? I think Accell makes a aftermarket performance coil for that engine that is less expensive than the factory. The F-150 with the 5.4 liter uses the same system. My neighbor replaced his coils with some that his son had on his Honda. They seem to work pretty good.

Okay! I did it! I was eyeballing a Browning .22 autoloader for a while, and bought it. I haven't fired it yet, but it seems compete and clean. In fact, it looks like it was tried out and sold. I took it apart and didn't find any powder or grit in the thing. Of course, AWP throws a wrench into the pictures when he posts a link to someone mentioning a heavy barrel Browning autoloader project!

I still have the 1/2 ton. It's my standby truck. The intent was to use the 3/4 ton for the tractor, but it gets better fuel economy than the 1/2 ton, and it's easier on Lil one's legs because of the legroom. Sooooo..... The 3/4 ton ended up being the primary.

You may want to check out the Accel coil. I noticed it was for a Honda, but it also fits the 5.4 liter Ford engines. It's possible it could be used on your car too. It's like the Ford '75-early 90s ignition spark amplifier; It was also used in the AMC cars and Jeeps.

She is in the red to my left my opponent is to my right in the black. That exchange got really heated and we are all still pretty up in arms.

Then it was my turn. Not the best, this is the only video I have seen posted yet.

"College Freshmen with credit cards", great line. Loved your speaking voice too, lower in pitch, forceful, slow and easy to understand. Great great job.

I liked the comment afterward when he said you gave a straight answer. All answers should be given straight. Even an honest I don't know is preferable to those dancers and bedazzlers in office now. Go gettem girl, go get them good.

Thank You OG last nights debate was not as good, although I did make some good points and really pin down the opponent.

The woman running for State Senator was sharp! She had her even longer incumbent opponent on the ropes. If looks could kill.... we were all getting the stink eye from the uber progressives who have been ruining the state.

Even if I lose big it was all worth it just for the opportunity to give em hell while they had to sit quietly and take it.

That was great Kathy!

I went to my daughter's on Thursday to watch grandson play football. It was great to see him play. A defensive tackle; about 6', pounds and can press his weight. As one who once ran the football; trust me, by the sound of the hits he gets their attention.

Sad thing is, if the refs said it was in support of gay rights, they would be cheered as heros. Nothing against gays, but I would rather support breasts than gays. :coffee:

That is the painful truth.

As we saw when the lib Juan Williams was canned by NPR openly expressing our fears is not tolerated.. Holding in fear or anger isn't good..

Great!!! You deserve it; hell, you own firearms and support RKBA. OTOH, when the NRA endorsed Nancy's boy Heath Schuler I was shocked.

Happy Birthday Janie!

Thank HDR.

I lost my voice yesterday, hope it comes back soon. The Gun store owner is going to spread the word on the NRA endorsement. I have a couple other groups supporting me but need to get out to voters at doors and now cant. I will just rest and pray today.

They put up the other debate, I cant look I feel I did horribly. Look at the bottom there are 2 parts linking to the video with a red 1 and 2. My hair looks awful. Tamath Rossi the woman on my left rocks.

Thanks HDR, I was afraid to look. I feel a strong feeling that I am making a fool of myself. The other debate was better, but its not on the net. A friend is trying to edit it into individual answers so I can put mine and my opponents up on youtube. She wont like be able to get it done before the election.

I cant wait to get this thing over with, I started way too early....:coffee:

Hope everyone is having a Fabulous day.

Thanks HDR, I am crashing the local gun club tomorrow, I gave the president a heads up at the VFW breakfast this am I will be back. They kicked me out last month... He is a knucklehead I think, but I will make one more forceful urging to get out and vote. I gave him the print out showing me as NRA endorsed. That and a couple of Tea Party events events tomorrow then it will be in Gods hands. I knocked on at least 5k doors.

Dogs and liberals.... it posed many dangers. Thank God Tuesday is almost here.

Hey, dont ruin my good time. I have been bragging to my sons about the NRA endorsement. The "Republican-American" also endorsed me, I just found out. Weird none of these groups or papers tell you. I have to learn through the grapevine. I cant wait until tomorrow is over, a new tire for my bike and plan on riding after this is over.

edit: The gun club went well. They may even help out at the polls.

Been missing all the fun with computer down but glad to see it's looking good. My prayers with you no matter how it turns out. Don't look like I'm getting any sleep tomorrow night, have several races here at home I have a stake in. Good thing I don't have to go to work on Wednesday.

In your case they got it right. Here, I listened to a bunch of people "expressing" themselves about the NRA and Schuler. It cost the NRA members. The VFW did the same thing; almost everyone they endorsed was good, then they seriously goofed.

Congratulations Kathy! I knew you were, as Liz puts it, "a woman of action"! If you got this far, you'll get the seat. All you have to do is keep pounding away on the issues, speak the truths, and show where the politicians in office haven't remembered that taxes are the people's money, not the politician's, and how they need to remain with-in a budget like the rest of us. My girls and I are proud to know you!

One heck of a good show Kathy and considering you started from a dead start with no name recognition you gave a good bloody nose, lip splitting, head ringing fight. They will know who you are the next time. You did a lot more than the rest of us about trying to make a change.

State House District 89: 5 of 5 precincts 100%
Vickie Nardello* [Dem] X 5,418 (53%)
Katheryn Brown [GOP] 4,711 (47%)
Bethany, Prospect, Cheshire

Yes, I beat her in her hometown. I spent less than 5 thousand to her 30 thousand most of which was taxpayers money.

edit: I have been sick for over a week, I will enjoy resting.

edit again: I think it was the gun club that put me over the winning mark in Prospect, I spoke to them on the eve of the election and they called friends and relatives who then voted for me. Maybe they will let me join now. ha ha

A big pot of home made chicken soup with dumplings, a big mug of the best coffee you can afford and a nice long leisurely bike ride will fix you right up. My company just left and is back in California, there is room for you in the little hut in the woods and a set of targets that need to be shot at if you want to make it a long ride.

Thanks. I would love to ride to your place OG if i had any vacation left. Its all used up. Maybe I could get there in the summer, I would love to meet Janet too.

I have decided to run again in 2012, Alice my campaign manager really wants to do it. And all of my volunteers too. We can start raising money now and with lessons learned we will kick some royal butt. We retrieved the signs today to reuse.

Among the most memorable people along the way:

* the fella who formed just the Young Marines chapter in the district... I am going to apply to volunteer with his newly formed chapter. We never had one in CT before.

*The WWII Veteran who is all alone in the world. His 5 brothers and 3 sisters all gone. Brothers were WWII and BIL all WWII. I asked him if I could come visit after the campaign he was delighted at the thought, I was honored. I want to bring him to the memorial in DC.

*the old woman who said "Jesus loves you little one" to a bird singing in the bush next to us. Sounds goofy but there was something special about her. She wants me to stop in for tea.

* the gun club who I believed was hostile toward me, but I was wrong.

*the lady with the most awesome little dog whom I convinced to vote.(her not the dog, but if he could he would have voted for me)
